This is true, but as Jammy alluded to elsewhere, the theory is
that bigger players tire sooner.

Because I love to be a nause, I've compared the weight of a
typical Quins 9-15 (Porter, Smith, Isgro, Lenny, Beard, Murley,
Green) with one for Sale (Warr, Ford, Roebuck, James, RdP, Reed,
Carpenter).
Based on the weights given on Wikipedia (mainly), Quins would be
633kg, Sale 601. That's 4.5kg (10lbs) per man heavier.
The Bristol backline that started at the Stoop was 645kg -
1.7kg/3.7lbs per man heavier than a typical Quins back line

Sure. Or the receiving team goes the length of the field, I
guess. Generally what happens is the team kicking off gets the
ball back pretty quickly and in a decent position, mind

Thank you for your patronising response.
One of the Robshaws highlighted how important the exit from
receiving a restart is really important on Comms last night. He
applauded a hefty boot into touch past the halfway line.
Cant help thinking that the coaches might be able to construct a
decent exit plan. After all, we are meant to be quite good at
broken field running.

A patronising response to a facetious comment, to be fair.
I think you've strayed quite far from the original point, where
you suggested that one of the benefits of taking the 3 was
getting the ball back from the kickoff. The fact remains that in
the modern game, a kickoff is either genuinely contestable, or
so deep that the option is almost always to find a clearance,
thus handing possession back.
Many teams are good at broken field running. Almost all of them
don't want to play against a set defence in their own half.
Bristol are the only side I can think of who have regularly
chanced their arm when receiving kicks, and that was almost
exclusively down to the game-warping power of having peak Semi
Radradra available and a team dedicated to all out attack. The
risk reward ratio does not work in the majority of cases.
Attacks being sparked by receiving the ball from a kickoff are
great when they happen, but are very rare and very risky. The
default for every team is to make a carry and set up a clearing
kick.

Fun as these endless arguments are…
Well I realise this isn’t how stats work but:
From my untrained eye in the stands , last night our defence was
back after its holiday during the Bristol game.
And our decision making and ability to convert in the 22 seemed
a lot better than it has been so far this season.
Not to mention managing to score tries in the second half - but
I’m not sure that Stormers side were any test of much at all by
60 mins.
Could all be an anomaly but let’s hope not.
