Oh meant to add to the last reply but totally forgot -- really
good site that uses the data to create some great detail -- Opta

The number of tackles we're making would also suggest we're
giving the opposition long periods of possession. Fair to say
some of that is down to a reduction in ball stealing / slowing
outside of the back row and Baxter/ Walker. Steph hasn't been
getting near, and we've gone from two excellent centres in that
area to a random assortment, none of which are particularly good
at slowing / stealing ball.
We're also not seeing a lot of counter rucks from quins this
season. It's likely this isn't an oversight but a consequence of
not committing numbers to the breakdown and focusing on the
defensive line instead. Which makes it all the more annoying
when we get caught short like we did against Bristol

The thing about taking the 3 is that you immediately get the
ball back.

And then a few seconds later the opposition gets a set piece
inside your half

It wasn't a joke. The likely outcome of a kick off is the
recieving team booting the ball into touch. The second most
likely is a contestable kick that frequently results in a scrum.
In most cases you would expect the team kicking off to have
possession pretty soon after.

Or, the kicking off team wins the ball and the defending team
coughs up a kickable penalty, or, plays advantage and scores a
try.
That is the potential issue with going for a penalty kick.

Do the stats include weights? . I think our 9-15 are lighter
than most, and often lose metres in the tackle at the gain line,
stopping the oppo eventually but letting them get 4 or 5 metres
over the gain line whereas if we gain its more likely to be 1 or
2 metres at most.
