Every season is contract season. If the majority of players are
on 2 or 3 year contracts, then between a third and a half of
them will be up for renewal in any given season.

Ah yes entirely fair to add in the European game when we had an
away game compared to a number of home games for English sides
Europe simply isn't a level playing field. We should not expect
away wins against bigger teams. Enjoy then when they happen,
hope for the best, but on paper we should lose more often than
not.
As for being closer to Falcons position than Bath... We quite
literally are not. 10 points behind Bath. 11 ahead of Falcons.

Why would you not include the European game? Excluding a game we
lost for no reason other than it was away is RFU levels of
cherrypicking stats…
However you look at it, Quins are consistently underperforming
and making the same errors every week, and have been for a while
now, and I think fans are within their rights to be frustrated
by this

Because if you're comparing the records of English teams, the
cherry picking is choosing the one European match given the
totally different opposition and the primacy of home advantage.
Have you seen the scores this weekend?
I don't know about consistently underperforming. I do agree
there have been some frustrating defeats but that is true for
most of the teams in the league. We are not entitled to having
things our own way, and if you read this match thread you'd come
away thinking that we were bottom of the league and getting
thrashed in the challenge cup or something - every error is
treated like a moral failing and a defeat is considered a mortal
insult. The comments about being beaten by a better team last
week were repeatedly mentioned, showing that some players simply
can't accept what is a simple fact of life in sport, and instead
take it personally when Quins don't dominate
RR: I accept we probably were poor. Mind you, wasn't it all
square heading into the final quarter? According to the usual
suspects on this thread, we did nothing good and were awful, the
team is a rabble and the coaches should be sacked. Finding it
hard to square that with a competitive showing away to Racing,
tbh. It's difficult to take people seriously when they ignore
anything good and go wildly over the top over anything bad.

I think part of the problem is everybody plays somewhat like
Harlequins these days. When we were the only ones who were
playing running rugby as opposed to the robotic kick and chase,
we had an advantage. Teams were unfamiliar with what we were
doing and defences were bamboozled by our running and
offloading. Now everybody does it, some better than us and
everyone runs a defence that we seem to struggle with if Marcus
isn't playing (and often when he is). The result is we're not as
good as we thought we were. As defences have adapted to the
running game, we haven't improved similarly in our attacking
game. So we ended up with 65% possession (which is what you want
in those conditions) and a sound beating on the scoreboard. Yes,
you can argue we had one try disallowed which might have been a
score. We dropped the ball when we were in scoring positions. We
left a number of points out there.
Oh, when will the good apples fall on our side of the fence?

Yeah. It was not by accident.
We were very good in the first half.
But, we got white line fever a bit and made some daft errors.
CCS went for the try when it probably wasn't on and got held up.
Dommers made a good attempt but r92 committed a cynical penalty
to stop it. Etc
But, it was little things that were frustrating.
When CCS was held up, r92 had the kick out. It went straight to
CCS who knocked on. No issues there- these things happen. But,
then he ran and dived on the ball and gave away a penalty.
Brainless.
As I said in a previous post when people were moaning about the
coaches. It wasn't Wilson who dived on the ball. It was the
players on the pitch who were messing up.

We got a lot of possession and territory because Racing took
time to warm up. They had two chances in the first half and got
tries from both. We had many more and messed up most with not
much to beat. We had a good try from Porter and then did pretty
much nothing in the second half. Scrum was suprisingly decent
and I thought the pack coped quite well given the conditions and
quality of the oppo. However there is simply no doubt that we
weren’t very good as Racing and were rubbish against Bristol.
All the stats in the world don’t mask the fact that we were
playing a weakened Racing team, missed multiple chances and
consistently failed to hold on to our tackles. And the final
play of the game summed it up. Basic error leading to another
butchered chance. Our worst performance ever? No. A poor
performance? Yes. Trends starting to show? Only that we are
so inconsistent. That’s nothing new and I stick to my view that
we’ve gone nowhere since last season and our squad is weaker
than it was. Let’s hope they start punching above their weight.
