Slight hyperbole perhaps, but there were definitely videos and
announcements from the club when he was signed and it seemed (in
my memory) that he was being touted as a shiny new amazing
thing. If he wasn't then why bring him here from a "second tier
kiwi side"?

Wasn't it part of that whole NZ partnership effort, that he was
meant to be the first of a host of future NZ talent coming
across as part of the investment?

He was a kid with a bit of talent coming from the other side of
the planet as a punt for the future on a cheap contract. Perhaps
there was a little more made of it than for most players in that
position but it wasn't exactly marquee player stuff

As I remember the only hype was when it was rumoured we were
signing someone from NZ. I'm pretty sure when it was confirmed
no one had even heard of him. Anyway, he's looked good briefly
on numerous occasions but way too inconsistant to be a serious
threat to the first team squad.
