       Excellent news.

Will Porter has committed his future to Harlequins after signing
a new deal, the club can confirm.
The livewire scrum-half, who has featured in every Gallagher
Premiership fixture this term, will keep his talents at The
       Stoop for seasons to come.
Porter has made total of 28 appearances since his arrival in
South West London at the start of the 2023/24 season, scoring
       seven tries.
The 25-year-old prides his game on pinpoint delivery from the
base, but he also possesses the ability to snipe through a gap
in the defensive line, recording an average of 6.2m per carry
       this season.
Form at club level has seen Porter rewarded with a call-up to
the England A setup for their clash with Australia A at The
Stoop on Sunday (17 Nov, 14:00).
“I’ve loved my time at Quins. When I got the opportunity to
extend my stay here, I jumped at it – I’m looking forward to the
       years to come,” said Porter.
“I feel as though I’ve really developed my game at the club with
the help of Nick Evans and Gerard Mullen,” he continued, “I’ve
gone after areas I need to work at but also tried to push on in
the areas that I’m strong in.”
Reflecting on highlight moments from his first season at the
Stoop, Porter said: “Bordeaux probably sticks out as one of the
best moments from last year – there were a few! Experiencing the
‘Big Games’ and having the opportunity to play at Twickenham
(Allianz Stadium) twice a year at club level is unbelievable
       too.”
Head Coach, Danny Wilson, added: “Will has been one of our most
consistent performers so far this season. He’s been in
outstanding form and we’re all thrilled he’s committed his
       future to the club.
“Will has fantastic game-understanding and plays a crucial role
in dictating our tempo over the course of 80 minutes, allowing
us to play our brand of rugby.
“His form at Club level has deservedly been rewarded with a
call-up to the England A squad this week, and we’re all excited
to see what the future holds for Will with club and country.”

An excellent one to keep. If we get Quirke as rumoured it could
be an excellent dual/combo of control and flair

Agreed this is excellent news. Been more than cover for Care -
he's displaced him as first pick.
The Quirke rumour is an odd one. Injury prone for two seasons
but theoretically would be battling for the 9 shirt. Certainly
not bench cover. Not sure how that would work. But neither would
be away for internationals and if JEv stays that's a very decent
       second string half-back combo.
Good to see new deals being signed given the extent of rumours
       flying around.

The optimist in me agrees that I can't see either Porter or
Raffi wanting to play second fiddle. Can't agree that neither
Porter nor Raffi will be away with England though given that
Porter is in the A squad and Raffi was mentioned as ruled out
through injury. Seems both are on the radar.

I really can't see us spending money on Quirke now, when Porter
has integrated so well that he's become first choice and when
Friday has announced himself as a player of huge potential.
Quins would be better off investing in those two and a solid
backup. Scrum halves don't usually have high injury rates and
it's rare for a club to be able to balance two top options
unless they have a contrast of styles - and I don't think Quins
want a contrast of styles. For as long as they have Marcus, they
want a scrum half who will deliver quick ball and game
management, follow play but not hogg the ball.

Sorry Yareet didn't mean to rate your post!
Friday looks a real prospect but it would be good to have two
proven guys and maybe with his injury record Quirke wouldn't be
all that costly. Certainly a step up on Gjaltema who doesn't
seem to be in the picture.

No, it was rumoured that he was on Bath's shortlist if Spencer
       didn't re-sign

Great news. Porter is deservedly first choice now.
Friday looks like he has lots of potential. Not sure if he'll be
ready to be the back-up 9 next season. So either we'll need DC
to do one more year, or we'll need to recruit a more experienced
player to plug the gap until Friday is ready, as we know
       Gjaltema isn't up to it.
I can see going for a Scott Steele level type of player.
