Connacht friendly

Harlequins are set to welcome Connacht Rugby for a friendly
fixture on Friday 21 February at The Stoop, 19:45 kick-off.
The Club is delighted to bring an additional instalment of the
hugely popular Friday Night Lights to supporters, and confirm
the fixture is included as part of 2024/25 Season Ticket
Memberships (excluding Women’s only Membership).
Season Ticket Members and Ticket Priority Pass holders can
purchase tickets now in an exclusive six-day Priority Sale
window, with tickets priced from just £20 for Adults and £10 for
Under-18s.
Tickets will go on General Sale from Tuesday 19 November
(11:00).
The Westerners currently occupy 5th place in the 16-team United
Rugby Championship (URC) standings and are tipped to be
challenging for a play-off spot in the latter stages of the
season.
The former Pro-12 Champions are finely poised in the URC table
after their first block of league fixtures following impressive
victories over the Sharks, Dragons and Scarlets, whilst picking
up multiple bonus-points in tight losses at the hands of Munster
and Ulster.
Harlequins Head Coach, Danny Wilson said: “Friday night fixtures
are always special occasions at The Stoop, and we look forward
to bringing our supporters another instalment against a strong
Connacht side in February. They’re a team with quality
throughout, who’ve shown they mean business in the United Rugby
Championship. We’re expecting a very competitive match-up as we
build towards the back end of the season.”

They've done a reasonably good job over the last year or two at
shoehorning these friendlies in against teams that would attract
a bit of interest, however I went to the Munster game this Feb
and found it to be rather underwhelming. 2 x 1st/2nd XVs going
at it in the cold with very few notable names to speak of.
Probably in front of a 60% filled stadium.
Don't want to be too negative about it as there's only so much
the club can do in sub-optimal circumstances and at least
they're trying. While I won't be clearing the diary for
Connacht, if I'm free I'll be there.

I think there's probably a bigger discussion to be had, and
that's "should the league be a bit bigger?". Then there'd be
more home games of value, and less need to fill in with
friendlies.

Each to his own, of course. I thought that Quins-Munster match
was a cracker. Both teams scored some fine tries and there was a
lot more deft handling by both teams.
I think a key is for the players to have unique shirt numbers
and for the program / team sheet to ensure that we can identify
all players from both teams. Some background information on all
players would help too. As usual in life, the more info one has,
the more interesting it is.

A bit like the old programmes. Although the team rarely matched
the publication. 😁

But then the extra games would be without internationals (as the
only slots are during the AIs or 6N) making them less
valuable,,,

stopped paying for a season ticket was too many Friday night
matches. Have already cancelled plans for a couple of matches
early next year for the same reason.

Absolutely, although we haven't actually given up our seats,
yet.
Unfortunately the Premiership Cup and friendlies on Fridays
aren't "hugely popular" enough to trigger ticket resale.

They are "hugely popular" with gangs of young men who drink way
too much alcohol and generally act like gangs of young men who
drink way too much alcohol. And I presume they are "hugely
popular" with the club because they bring in extra money.
