I completely agree with you, RFU, he should be rewarded. Can I
suggest an all expenses paid trip to Jamaica, for 4 months,
starting tomorrow???

Please don’t get too worried, Bill Sweeney will still get a big
pay rise despite the team’s efforts to let down his amazing
leadership. I wouldn’t want any anxiety to hang over the forum
about this.

So who do you get in now that the rfu can afford? Who is
actually available to replace him? Fair enough, a lot of us
agree he's not the right man for the job but who do you replace
him with?

At this stage I’d take anyone. Never understood the argument of
“who do you go to then?”. Probably why I’d be no good at a
domestic violence counsellor saying that

OK, philosophical debate time. For me, the problem isn't that he
is a bad, stupid, boring, thick myopic dinosaur, it's that he is
trying to implement a game plan that is alien to him as a coach.
He want's Leicester's 90s/00s game plan with Quins 2012/2021
attack which as we know, doesn't work. We looked ok when he
first came in as he was basically following Eddie's game plan
with Eddie's players so looked better. Now he's putting his own
imprint on it, it doesn't work.
If he replaced Marcus with Farrell/Ford, Furbank with Steward,
Slade with Tuilagi and CCS/Dommers with Underhill and Curry B
it'd probably look a lot better and be more effective. Rugby is
a simple game, decide on your game plan and pick players who
suit it. If you try and get creative or try to change an ethos,
it'll come tumbling down around you. Just ask Mr Gustard or Mr
Lancaster!
If he had nEV or Vesty coaching attack with this team, it would
certainly look a lot better as they are more used to combining
the free flowing game with a structured defence as where
Wigglesworth only knows about set piece and box kicking. Do we
honestly think that all of those positive Marcus interventions
at the weekend or against the ABs were worked out on the
training pitch? No, that's him being his instinctive self. Would
Borthwick/Wigglesworth tell him to go through 2 phases, work a
piece of magic and put whomever in on the corner? No, it would
be go through the phases and wear them down and when they give a
penalty kick the 3 points.
The reason the ABs won in the end is that they knew what was
coming when Marcus went off. Box kick, ariel bomb, territory so
made their jobs easier and they knew that they would find a gap
(around George Ford) and have the quality to go through it.
Australia played what was in front of them and chanced their
arm. A fumbled restart, a handling error and a FB who bit in
when he should have stayed on the last man (yes Marcus, that's
on you) and they score a cracker in the corner. There's probably
not much we could have done to prevent that try other than
collect the restart correctly and kick out for a narrow win that
papered over the cracks.
Too late to correct things now but If I'm Borethick, I'm either
changing my attack coach before the 6N or I'm taking out my
creative players and going back to bump and grind. Throwing the
players under the bus was unacceptable, as it was with Lancaster
in 2015 but if he came back now, having played in more
successful structures and not having Farrell senior sniping at
him all the time about the 'Saracens Way' he would be a lot
better as he now understands attack. People say that there has
been too much coaching change and that isn't helping. I agree,
but panic replacing them with your mates isn't the answer
either.

It was concerning that he said after the game that if they are
to play attacking rugby, they will concede turnovers and give
chances to the opposition, or words to that effect. So, my worry
is that he then thinks trying to attack is too risky and so goes
back to his ultra conservative game plan.
What he never seems to accept is that endless, predictable,
often poorly executed box kicking is a real issue

Listening to RUW this morning, they're talking about stripping
back the game plan to the start of the WC, as it worked against
Argentina and Japan.....can you imagine, the horror. Is it
feasible in any language to start Ford against the Boks and
leave Marcus on the bench? I think the reaction would be
horrendous. Worse, Smith told not to play on instinct and just
kick, kick, kick
