The trouble with central contracts is the danger of players
being rewarded for mediocrity while better players don't ever
get a look in. See England Cricket..!!

There’s pros and cons to central contracts. Works well for
Ireland and NZ but then everything is union controlled there.
England are between a rock and a hard place. Need some element
of certainty to make it worthwhile for the top players to stay
with the cap but England’s player pool is sizeable so someone
from outside the squad will always be making the ‘form’
argument. Unless it’s at 12 where we don’t actually create any
       players.

have the ferocity in contact that an Underhill or Curry has,
which these days is 80% of the game in the back row at that
       level.

He's also unfortunate to be playing in an era when teams are
incredibly large. If he was playing late 2000s / early 2010s
he'd be tearing it up at international level.

He outplays the bigger guys every week. There's only one way to
find out how he'd fare... Sadly, I'm certain Borthwick will
ignore talent, consistency, firm and stats, and will continue to
produce mediocre sides with mediocre results.

The biggest obstacle for Evans making it for England is he
dosent play for a consistent top 4 team, and then hooter and
       holler at every breakdown win.
Earl isn’t even the best 7 in the country. I’d sack him off and
have Willis at 8 and Pearson at 7 for SA. I think if he was here
Jack Willis would be in with a shout

It is not now an England side, it is Borthwick RFC now that the
players are being paid a salary to play for that team. I can’t
see how any other players can break into the side. There needs
to be more transparency on the salary being made to players to
secure their services to the “national team”. There are a lot of
journeymen players who need to be paid more so that the game can
attract more players and not just a handful of players who
benefit from the wealth of the English RFU.

100%. Heinrich Brussow came to mind!

He might outperform some big guys playing in the prem on some
key metrics. But when you're up against a whole team full of big
guys in an international fixture it's a different ball game
altogether. Power becomes the most valuable metric and unless
you have that in abundance (at least in the pack) your overall
effectiveness becomes severely diminished. I'd selfishly love
him to get an England shot as a Quins fan but if I look at it
objectively, I can totally see why he's not being given the
       opportunity.

       According to Wikipedia, he's 1.83m and 102kg.
Pieter-Steph du Toit is 2m and 115kg. Big difference.
Ben Earl (35 caps) is 1.86m and 107kg. Minimal difference.

Is Fin Smith fit to play on saturday? He's lost a lot of
gametime recently, but Id rather him in the 23 than Ford. What
about Sam Underhill also? That guy gives everything for England.
The one Quins lad who I feel would do really well for England is
Jack Kenningham. Should Dingwall replace Slade? Should Steward
have the 15 shirt back? Its not Borthwicks fault that we are
       short of quality props.
