even if only for 2 or 3 years. If he has no central contract and
we can't match a much bigger offfer what is he to do? The
biggest suprise is that its D2 and not Top14 courting him !

       Agree
I would move if Iwas offered 2 x my salary
England caps do not buy a house or food

England players are paid around £23k per game

Appreciate that, however Evans is not getting this, and is not
close to getting this. He should absolutely take the money, one
wrong landing and his career could be over next week.

I'm never convinced players are leaving until it's announced
officially. There have been too many rumours shown to be wrong.
In the case of Wev, if he goes it will be a big loss. But
understandable. He's as good as any other flanker in the Prem,
yet seems nowhere near getting capped. That's down to an England
manager who seemingly can't see beyond favourites, and ignores
form. Sadly, I doubt he'll be the only player to leave England
for the same reason. Caps mean a lot to a player. So does money,
in a sport where careers can be very short, and are usually
       physically debilitating.
I don't know what the answer is, beyond salary cap increases
(for al the subsequent issues that would cause) and some form of
central contracts for a wider range of players. But that will
only be relevant if the England management can open their eyes
and their minds. But we're talking about people who would likely
give Ben Youngs 250 caps, so that's unlikely.

And that's the issue with the central contract system - when
you've handed out all the contracts, what happens when the next
generational talent emerges at age 21/22? Because the pipeline
doesn't stop and wait for George Ford's (ridiculous) central
contract to expire - and those players coming up through the
ranks with 2+ RWC cycles ahead of them are the players we're
starting to see opting to spend their prime years in France
(e.g. Willis, Arundell, Marchant and now possibly Anyanwu - who
I grant you is no established England international like
Willis/Marchant were but easily could be in and around the AI
squad this time next year on his current trajectory).
I don't know what the short term answer is either - which leads
me to believe maybe there actually isn't one and the PRL just
have to keep throwing efforts into "growing the game" longer
term so the picture looks different a decade or two from now.
Money is talking now more than it ever has before - it's as
       simple as that.

We don’t know how long the central contracts are for, though.
The deal with the clubs is for two four year cycles - but
there’s no word on the duration of the contracts.
I would expect them to be annual; with only a finite number to
hand out, you wouldn’t want to be stuck long term with a player
who has lost form - and you wouldn’t want players to get
comfortable because they are tied in.

Andy Goode on the rugby pod said that they were a mix of 1,2 and
3 years, though who got what length wasn't announced. I think
that one year contracts only would be too limiting because if
someone is being offered a multi year contract in France then
you would want the ability to counter than with a multi year
       contract central contract.

Both of which seem to be what England re guilty of perpetually.

England has such a large player pool that perhaps we should stop
thinking bird in the hand and just take the next cab off the
       rank.

Evans is awesome at club level but I don't think he'd be as
effective at international. He's not the biggest and doesn't
have the ferocity in contact that an Underhill or Curry has,
which these days is 80% of the game in the back row at that
       level.
Would be gutted to see him leave Quins but you can't begrudge
       him the payday one bit!
