What's frustrating for me is that he hasn't played (or hasn't
been allowed to play) his natural game for England. There is
zero value selecting him and then using him as a Billy Vunipola
style battering ram. You want him running unexpected lines and
generally keeping the defence on its toes.
I think we've only seen him really try to do that twice. In the
2023 6Ns (IIRC) he picked some great lines, but the timing was
off and he dropped a lot of balls and got a lot of flak for it.
If he'd caught them, he'd have made multiple big line breaks. In
the RWC warm up against Wales, he picked those lines and I
thought had a good impact - but it was in a poor overall team
performance (we now know because of the Walters fitness regime)
and a fair number of those players were cut after the game.
My suspicion is that Borthwick sees the value he can bring if he
can play that game and is prepared to give him time to adapt,
but that this series is when he really needs to make it count.
Of course, most fans don't think that way, just as a lot of
non-Quins fans feel that Marcus has been given enough chances
and would rather rever to Ford or give Fin Smith a chance. But
England have struggled to get over the try line in recent
seasons, and a lot of their tries have come from the sort of
creativity that Marcus brings - for which he needs players
around him who can be in the right place at the right timeto
take advantage of that creativity. Dommers is one of those
players.

I see no rational argument for any England 10 to be selected
ahead of Marcus. However, I'm no fan of SB and his game plan
trajectory so let's see where this goes.
Remember the 2022 Eng v NZ AI when Marcus had Twickenham
absolutely buzzing to achieve the 25-25
That's when the group tore up EJ's game plan and played heads-up
Rugby
You pay good money to see Rugby played like that.

Until we get a coach who can smell the coffee, it won't change.
You parachute in instinctive players and restrict the game plan
because in your heart you'll always be about territory and
possession and sticking up your jumper. Dommers at 8 and Earl at
7 gives you two running and carrying options with a real basher
at 6 and that will improve England no end.
Still, we'll carry on as are....sad really.

Completely agree with the tantalising prospect of a 7. Earl / 8.
Dombrandt axis plus a workhorse at 6 - something I've been
wanting to see for England since Earl burst onto the
international scene. It has benefits both sides of the ball -
Earl and Dommers both excellent jackallers as well as the
obvious ball carrying carnage they could brew up together.
Dommers brings a totally different kind of ball carrying threat
to Earl - defences will struggle to prepare for both, so even if
they nullify one, you'd expect the other to wreak havoc.
Unfortunately Earl burst onto the scene at 8 and that is where
he will stay unless/until he gets injured, especially now that
the selectors' and pundits' darling Tom Curry is back fit for a
game or two.
To be fair, Underhill is a brilliant player too and deserves to
be in the mix for the 7 shirt when he's back to fitness - but I
do just want to see Earl and Dombrandt go on a run of games
together now that we're well away from the Eddie Jones madness.
I don't agree with some of the assessment of the Borthwick era -
I think there's a lot of people forgetting/choosing to ignore
green shoots that we saw during the 6N. I, for one, am excited -
and the fact that Dommers is on the bench for this one shows
he's there or thereabouts in Borthwick's plans going forward.

I think an Earl/Dombrandt/Chesum back row would be great. Pace
power and threats of all sorts.
Same as I see 10 Marcus, 12 Lennox 13 Lawrence being a
compelling midfield

Interesting that Will Greenwood would have Northmore at 13...
Personally I'd have played ,.heLozowski must wonder what else he
has to do to get a chance. To not even get on the bench is
ridiculous

Lozowksi is defo the form 13 and deserves a go over Slade who
has done virtually nothing of note in the bulk of his caps (he’s
basically the latest Jack Nowell)
