Marler and Care - last season?

Quins being a professional business hire and let go players each
year as you'd expect, however there have been exceptional
players and club legends who deserve more respect in how their
       careers are managed out.
Marler and Care fall into that category for me HOWEVER, I'm
interested to know how the club decide when to play them.
Clearly Baxter and Porter are first choice but I can't help
feeling that we would have seen out that game vs Bath had we not
       made the changes.

I see your point, 10, but I think we had so many chances to put
that game to bed that weren't related to Care & Marler so not
sure we should put any blame there.
Managing them going forwards is a key point though. I'd rather
Marler wasn't with England and could get more game time for
Quins and get back to his old self again. I still think you
could start either on Sunday and not see a fall off.

I think that it's fair to point to Care as having been the
person who most visibly contributed to the final try with his
'scurry across but don't really tackle' tackle attempt -
something we've seen before - but our loss was a systems failure
(failure to dominate with a man up twice - Smith being in the
guard position for the final phase giving Bath an easy target to
get over the line. It wasn't burst-through-the-ruck bad, but it
was a return to our 2023-4 defensive frailty at the breakdown).

Good point BQ about Marler england duties. I would like to see
him focus on Quins primarily and try to reclaim pole position.
I feel that Danny is someway off his best at the moment. Without
question he can find form again and really have an excellent
       season

I wonder if Marler is with England primarily for what he brings
to the training side of things. Who better for the tightheads to
come up against? If so, and if he's unlikely to be picked, it
seems a bit unfair on Quins.
Or I could be completely wrong!

He was a vice captain on the NZ tour so clearly seen as a leader
in the team. Having 3 LH's in the squad in the norm. If Genge
gets injured, the other recent call-ups are Baxter and Iyogun
who have two caps between them. You could also throw in somebody
like Obano who has 4 caps.
IMO, he's there on merit as a senior voice and a viable option
to play. To suggest anything else is bordering on disrespectful.
In a 36-player squad there are players who are unlikely to be
picked (Ben Curry, Sleightholme, Roebuck, Randall) but Joe isn't
one of them and having these players in the squad isn't unfair.

Have to say I agree that DC was sadly one of the reasons we lost
that game and wondered what might have been with Porter still on
       the field.

Danny’s impact this season has been memorable but for the wrong
seasons. Sale kicking it away when chasing the game, but overall
the poor rash decisions have continued

Marler came on against Bath and won us a penalty that gave us a
good chance - when most of our scrums were dreadful all game.
He’s not ready for the scrap heap just yet. Unfortunately Danny
has come on a few times this season and looked all at sea. I
think he’s trying to hard to see the game off rather than just
playing naturally. Bit like he did for while with England.
Porter is definitely the form 9 for us at the moment and needs
to play as much as possible.

Must be tough managing this situation. Who would be a DoR! I
think the bottom line is that we need to see out games rather
than ensure players get a run out
