There was a time, not too long ago when, you know, a decent
Rugby fella might be trusted to be able to maintain a modicum of
integrity and dignity upon such a proposed division of
responsibilities. Given the Saracens track record its
unfortunately a post that should never be considered for
officials of that club and probably most others would find the
       potential compromise uncomfortable.
If this was Borthwick's cunning plan he is indeed a bigger
fcukwit than I'd previously taken him for - he is ultimately in
charge of coaching structures and would have passed his
recommendations on to the Ruperts and Tarquins to deliver at HQ.

I really don't understand the recent development towards a job
share arrangement between club and country for RFU coaching
appointments. First Joe El Abd sharing head coach role at
Oyannax with England defence coach role then the suggestion Phil
Morrow could combine England and Sarries S&C roles. I don't see
Ireland/South Africa/NZ accepting any of their international
coaching staff on a part-time basis. The surprise resignations
of Felix Jones et al have clearly caught the RFU off guard, but
as one of the wealthiest rugby unions in the world surely they
could afford secure the services of suitably qualified personnel
       on a full-time basis ?

It’s not out of choice, it’s out of necessity. England can’t
keep their coaches (for whatever reason), clubs don’t want to
lose influential coaches mid-season, and the RFU can’t/don’t
want to pay up. The RFU might be one of the wealthier nations,
but they don’t have the millions needed to keep buying coaches
       out of their contracts.
So the options are get someone you don’t want/isn’t good enough,
or try and get the guy you do want part-time into full-time
       later on.
