Irne Herbst in Harlequins training
Harlequins have named their matchday squad for Friday night’s
Gallagher Premiership clash with champions Northampton Saints at
Cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens (KO 19:45).
The Starting XV features six changes following the win against
Newcastle Falcons, with Irne Herbst set to make his 50th
appearance and with Stephan Lewies continuing to captain the
side in the absence of the injured Alex Dombrandt.
In the forwards, props Fin Baxter and Titi Lamositele continue
alongside returning hooker Jack Walker. Irne Herbst joins
Stephan Lewies at second-row, with Jack Kenningham and Will
Evans continuing on the flanks. Chandler Cunningham-South
completes the pack at number eight.
In the backs, Danny Care returns at scrum-half, with Jarrod
Evans moving into the starting line-up at number 10 and Marcus
Smith moving to fullback in place of Leigh Halfpenny. In the
centres, Lennox Anyanwu is joined by Will Joseph who comes in
for the injured Luke Northmore. Oscar Beard and Nick David start
on the wings, with Cassius Cleaves picking up an injury against
Newcastle.
The Impact Players feature the traditional five-three split,
with Nathan Jibulu joining Jordan Els and Simon Kerrod in the
front-row. Dino Lamb and James Chisholm provide cover at lock
and back-row, with Will Porter, Bryn Bradley and Cameron
Anderson the impact backs.
Head Coach Danny Wilson commented: “Friday night games under the
lights offer a great atmosphere. It’s a great place to go and
play rugby and a great surface. I know the boys are really

Would rather David at 15 and Marcus at 10, but with limited
options on the wing it's understandable.
Saints attacking game will no doubt stretch us and Joseph has
looked a more consistent defender at 13 then Beard so I think
that's the right call.
No Augustus for Saints is a boost for us. He's there go to man
for making the hard yards.

Gosh, they really don't want to move Nick to FB do they? I hope
this Marcus at 15 business doesn't stick but I fear it already
has...

Goodness
1-15 not a disaster but going to be a mighty effort against such
a strong team on their turf.

Can’t really have too much better considering the injuries.
Where is Wyn Jones and Lewis? Just need to hope Els and Kerrod
aren’t needed for much of the game.
Marcus at 15, sigh.
Think it might be a long day at the office and a good result
will be a losing bonus point:
Saints 32 Quins 19

I'd have started Chis, CCS and WEv in the back row, with
Kenningham on the bench. It's more physical, and Chis is usually
better as a a starter than a replacement.
No doubt Marcus will shine, wherever he plays, and Evans has
played well so far.
If Beard continues his form, it will be a strong backline.
Surprised that Jibulu isn't starting. And where is Riley?

I think they would if they had another fit and experienced
winger, but Anderson and Hyde clearly aren't yet trusted to
start.
JEv is a 10/12 so can't go to the wing and hasn't played 12 for
us except off the bench
Lenny is a 12/13 and fast enough to play wing, but then who
would play IC?
Joseph is a 13/wing but better at 13 than wing
Beard is a 13/wing and currently better at wing than 13
David is a wing/fullback
Marcus is a 10/fullback
Assuming those are the only fit players they trust to start, the
other permutation would be Smith, Beard, Evans, Anyanwu, Joseph,
David - but I am assuming that a) Evans hasn't trained much at
12, and Anyanwu hasn't trained recently at 13, and if someone
has to be subbed the reshuffle would be more serious than with
the setup above.
We're a bit lucky that Borthwick decided to broaden Marcus's
horizons...

Well that's a makeshift back line but think we look decent -
maybe even having the edge - up front. Not often it's that way
round!
On Jibulu, Danny Wilson said last week that they were going to
manage his game time, like they did for Baxter.
