Rugby Finance Report

A report by insolvency specialists Leonard Curtis has just been
published looking at the finances of the Premiership. Quins
come out on top in the Financial Performance Index over the last
4 years looking at financial and sporting performance. We have
the highest wage bill (22/23) but this is the lowest percentage
of revenue of all the clubs. Given this, im not sure why the
club makes a loss and is balance sheet insolvent. A well
researched document worth a read.

Harlequins revenue numbers for 21/22 should raise a few red
flags. Looks very fishy.

Could it be that Quins have a huge Marketing department* to help
get to that £27m revenue figure? Seems like a good idea, tbh.
*Or a Community team to grow the game. Or a bigger events team
to increase non-match day revenue

I can't work out how much, if any, of this is sarcasm. So
apologies if this comes across critical.
Because in another post everyone was praising Quins for having
the biggest social media following of any club in the country.
This doesn't happen by accident - you need a team of people to
create interesting content.
And while some may scoff, it's how you bring in new fans. It's
one of the reasons the Stoop is full every home game. 55 year
old white men who work in finance are great for the next 10
years....but the club has to be looking at the next 30 and for
that you need younger supporters (and their kids etc).
So yes, we have a large staffing budget, but to criticise
"marketing" or "community" programmes misses the bigger picture
in long-term survivability.

What do you think is fishy? Is it that revenue was higher than
the following year? If so, remember that the BG in 2022 was
disupted by rail strikes and had attendance 20k beloiw usual.
Those last 20k are a huge money spinner for Quins.
