I wonder why the RFU don't have a knockout cup (FA Cup style) of
all National 1 + National 2 + Cambridge + Chinnor.
I think there could be some cracking fixtures from a lot of
fairly evenly matched teams.

The knockout cup continued for 4 years without the premiership
clubs - we won it in 2006. Unfortunately Wikipedia doesn't say
why it stopped.

I think the issue is that, unlike in the FA cup, putting up an
amateur club against a professional club in Rugby puts the
amateur players at risk of physical harm. Imagine pitting a prop
or hooker from your local level 7 club against a semi/full
professional from London Scottish (who could even be a Prem
player on loan to get back to full fitness). It's a recipe for
disaster and legal/financial claims.

Sure - but, I think that this wouldn't be an issue once that you
get from National 1 and below. i.e. I think that there would be
do danger in a Nat-2 team scrumming against a Nat-1 team.
