Yes, I’m not too excited by this at all. I still have Goneva and
Sackey in the back of my mind as the last ‘mature’ back 3
players we signed.
Still, let’s hope he proves me wrong!

Sackey has moved to the round ball game:

1/2p isn't the only Welsh injury cover announced. The club's
just announced that Wyn Jones has joined as well for the season.

Would be handy if the club actually gave us an injury update.
Can only assume Marler is worse than what’s already known

Given Marler's history and durability it must have been pretty
bad for him to go off that early in the match. Still, Wyn Jones
is fair cover under the circumstances.

Chuffin nora! The new London Welsh have arrived......now it's a
shame that Gatland isn't the Lions coach, we'd have so many
Lions!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Halp'ny is one of those that works or doesn't. If he's last
ditch tackling is still up to it then, that is better than
David/Lynagh. An extra kicking option from long range, we
haven't had for a very long time so that feels good. Fitness,
who knows? Certainly not us as the club never tells us.
Wyn Jones, I can't fathom but are we comfortable with Els/Kerrod
backing up Baxter for, potentially, a big chunk of the season>
Especially as he'll be with England for a while?
Maybe Bomb is using these welsh players as an application for
the taffs head coach role???

He's not coming in to be first choice, and he was a free agent
so I suspect he's pretty cheap.
But to have a player of that calibre who can fill a gap, brings
experience and leadership, and is a goal kicking machine when
needed, I don't see how it's really a downside. We have talented
back 3 player but most are pretty young still. It's a sensible
signing imo

The downside is that he's still going to be more expensive than
a less feted player, is slower than our front row, and he's an
injury liability to put it mildly. Asking him to be reliable
cover is gambling based on hope rather than the reality of the
last few years.
Anything can happen so maybe this will turn out to be an
inspired signing, of course.

Happy enough with Wyn Jones but Halfpenny is a real WTF signing
on a number of different levels. Aside from the fact that it’s a
long while since he’s been any good, a defensive kicking 15 just
doesn’t suit us at all. There are some decent players without
clubs who are most likely cheaper, younger and better suited to
our style of play. Weird.
I hadn’t clocked Murley is out again. Gutted to hear that, but
with Cleaves and Zheng coming through I’m hopeful one or both
can step up.
