Does anyone actually think that Steph Lewies should actually be
starting or on the bench unless he is captain ?

When he's fully fit he's often been a fantastic player for us.
The lineout is a completely different beast with him there, and
he brings a combination of athleticism and power with some
decent ruck work too. He is an excellent player. When fully fit.
Which he rarely is.

Lewies and Launchbury probably would be my choices at lock. The
lineout seems to work a lot better, but Hammond is no poor
replacement.
Lamb and Hammond would do a good job as a pair, with Herbst in
contention anyway.
I really hope we see Riley start next season, as Walker in my
view really hasn’t created enough distance to clearly justify
being persisted with. It’s a tough one too as I’d rather have
Jibulu on the bench who is a great impact player

Hard to say where we'll start, there's clearly some
transitioning to do. But my forecast the team by the end of the
year is something like:
1. Baxter
2. Jibulu (I'm predicting a real breakthrough season for him)
3. Lewis (Being behind Collier is no shame, think he'll kick on
with more game time)
4. Launchbury
5. Lamb
6. Cunningham-South
7. Evans W.
8. Dombrandt
9. Porter (Has to happen at some stage!)
10. Smith
11. Murley
12. Anyanwu / Northmore (too hard to call)
13. Joseph
14. David
15. Green
16. Riley
17. Marler
18. Lamositele (Outside chance Hobson might start to push
through)
19. Hammond
20. Kenningham
21. Care
22. Evans J.
23. Beard

Agree on the Jibulu thoughts. What I saw of him last season
makes me think he is going to leapfrog Riley in the pecking
order. Both good in the loose but Jibs looks like he has some
real power under the lid too. Jibs and Riley as the future with
one of Head or Musk at third choice feels decent and unless
Walker sorts out his throwing, he is taking up salary cap now.

I wonder what will happen to Cleeves. For a few seasons now he’s
been talked about but little movement. Just hope we don’t have
another Ibitoye on our hands (minus the attitude)

Appreciate it’s a minority view, but I would maintain that
Ibitoye was a young man who was understandably disappointed when
(as a clear starter and our top try scorer) right at the point
he was anticipating a major bump up from his post Academy
contract he was asked to take a 25% pay cut. He then made some
poor decisions/ was badly advised, but nothing suggests to me he
has continued to show a bad attitude. It was an strange time for
everyone, I think it’s time to let it go.
Cleaves is still officially in the Academy (though we might
still see some promotions for the 24/25 season?) He needs
game-time and if he stays fit it seems likely he’ll get plenty
this year.

I always remember that ridiculous advert when we signed Goneva
that made Ibitoye look daft. That kind of thing can’t have
helped him. I wasn’t his no.1 fan but he wasn’t well advised.

I like seeing the SA pairing of Lewies and Herbst at lock. But I
think Lamb is too good to drop and Launchbury offers so much. Of
the four, I'd say Lewies is easiest to drop as he seems rarely
100% fit. Irne had a very good season and just got better and
better. Nice headache to have.
Riley at hooker, but Jibulu is going to be hard to ignore. I'd
still start Marler quite often, but reduce his minutes. Let him
go full pelt for 40 and then bring on Baxter. Marler doesn't
seem good off the bench IMO.
Zheng is a big lad. But Cleaves has magic.
Undroppables (when fit) - Tyrone, Marcus, Murley. Even though we
have strength in all positions, those three can turn games.
