Does a team have to have one? Even if it means having a weak
link in other areas of the game?

I was chatting to a number of the AB fans as I was leaving the
game. Their view was that it was a really tough game for both
sides, evenly matched and some thought that England actually
deserved to win (not something you expect from an AB fan!). Most
also thought that we were going to continue to improve and be
pushing for the title in 3 years with the talent we have if we
keep going on the path we're on now.
It almost felt as if the lack of a breeze made the kickers job
harder rather than easier. They should really have a shotclock
on the screen too!

I saw a stat a few months ago which highlighted the relative
success of teams who have one.

I’d wager the success of having a left footed kicker, who
otherwise is a below standard international kicker , does not
outweigh the importance of someone who’s class in that position.
Andre wasn’t a class left footed option but still took kicks for
us at the expense of Marcus, but he’s not on the same page as an
out and out kicker. Why cannot someone else be taught it, rather
then have someone there solely just because that’s all they do,
but 90% of their game is crap.
It’s a bit like me being at work saying I’m amazing at changing
the printer ink cartridge, and whilst not my job as I’m not
admin, can still do it to help out. No one would worry if they
sacked me who’s going to suddenly have any idea how to change
the printer ink, because it’s someone else’s job normally.

Stephen Jones has - as expected - launched his vitriolic attack
on Marcus. He’s also now got it in for Fin Baxter. He must
have forgotten CCS is a Quin or he’d have had a go at him as
well. To paraphrase, will no one rid us of this turbulent
journalist? His attacks are tantamount to online bullying. No
mention that why England lost the game was at the breakdown.

It would be interesting to see what the buffoon’s scribblings
would say if his idea of what the England team should be was
dismantled in a test. I don’t want it to happen of course. Oh
well, he keeps us amused/bemused.
I watched the SA v Ireland game too yesterday. Lots of
missed kicks in that one as well. A Kiwi friend of mine said
that the stadium in Dunedin was known to be difficult to kick
in.

Yeah I was thinking through who else may have been an option. I
would guess that the expectation is that he'll do nothing more
than hold tackle bags but whoever goes out is an injury away
from playing at Eden Park.
Somebody like Lahiff, Ford-Robinson or Rapava-Ruskin wouldn't
have much test experience but could offer far more rugby nous
and have been closer to the test squad than Iyogun.
