Randall should have been the impact 9 off the bench. Spencer
would be better suited to starting or not at all in my view

Both teams missed kicks so I don’t think it’s that big a deal.
However you would think Marcus would have kicked his easier
ones. Does the indoor atmosphere affect the ball more? I
thought the performance dropped off when Mitchel and Marcus went
off. We were so slow and gave the ball back to them constantly
and never got near the try line. The Kiwis never got near
scoring a try in the second half either so that’s great defence
apart from some discipline lapses that gave them the two
penalties. One of which was a little harsh.
Overall a good result away in New Zealand with a lot of
newish players. Looking forward to next week.

Spencer was absolutely dreadful, sadly.
Real shame Marcus had an off day with the boot. Enjoyed what
happened when he decided to personally take control of the game
and trust his ability a bit more.
Some very poor performers today. Spencer, Stuart, Slade, Earl.
Then again some great games from guys like Furbank, Underhill,
Itoje, and Martin.

Slade turned in an opposite performance to what I expected. He
was decent in defence, led the blitz and made a few really good
reads. But ball in hand he wasn't great, and particular his long
passing game where he threw a couple of loopers which his mates
won't thank him for.

Both the scrum and the breakdown issues can be addressed. Too
often we were fractionally late in getting the support to the
man who'd gone to ground.

Don't forget repeatedly kicking the ball into opposition
players. He also rushed up and dropped off tackles putting us in
real trouble, though his reads were largely good

Slade is never going to tear up trees for England, and I think
we are missing a trick by starting him. I’d be tempted to give
Freeman a run at 13 with OS out on the wing.

It was clearly a tough day for kicking for some reason -
Mackenzie missed as many, albeit one because he timed out the
shot clock.

I don’t disagree with anything anyone has said about Slade but
he’s the only left footed kicking option at the moment so
they’re going to keep picking him. He has his limitations at the
top level which we all know about by now but is a decent player
and not a big drop off from freeman or whoever else would play
there in attacking terms really and they aren’t going to
sacrifice the kicking and distribution options he can bring for
that.
Being a decent left footed kicker and having the skill set to
play at the top level (even with no elite traits particularly)
is what kept Elliot Daly around so long and it’s what will keep
Slade there now. It’s not like the balance with Lawrence and
Marcus is bad. There are other reasons why this one slipped
away.

13 will be up for grabs by 6 nations.
Some names that come to mind..
Sam Spink at Sarries
Joseph with us (as let’s face it Northmore is consigned to 12
for us now)
Freeman (if he plays there regularly for Saints)
There is also that lad at Sarries whose name escapes me who
plays 12, so maybe Lawrence could shift to his better position.
