Marquee fixtures - watch this space

CEO of Prem Rugby in yesterday’s match programme: “Marquee
fixtures, including the iconic Big Game, The Showdown and Big
Summer Kick-Off, continue to showcase our sport to new
audiences. And we are very excited by our clubs’ plans to create
more of these unmissable moments - so watch this space when the
fixtures are announced on July 23.”
Does this mean more big stadium matches next season? Hopefully
not a third Big Game for Quins. What other big stadium games
might there be?

I think we'll concentrate on keeping BG at it's usual attendance
& growing the BSKO to similar levels before we add a third
fixture at the Big Stoop. I could see some derby games for other
clubs going that way. Newcastle vs Sale at St James' Park?
Saints vs Tigers at Stadium MK?

Is Stadium MK large enough to be worth it for Saints.
I thought we needed about 40,000 to break even after the hire
costs on the big stoop.
Stadium MK is only 30,000 unless you bring in temporary seating.
It is also a postage stamp of a pitch.

They've taken games there in the past. I'd guess that the cost
of renting it is lower than what we pay for the Big Stoop.

I'm surprised that they haven't built a big stadium down in
Devon/Cornwall or Norfolk/Lincolnshire as with sport, concerts
and Deadly's annual summer BBQ you'd always make good money.
Exeter v Quins at Penryn stadium in late April would be
glorious.
Accepting die hards will not want like it and grumble about
Season Ticket prices etc.....

I'd guess part of the reasoning is that for the size of a decent
venue (30K and up) some places are easier to travel to than
others. If a concert is in London, you've got a large population
(including out into the home counties) that can easily get to it
and back home again afterwards, so a venue there makes sense.
Same for Manchester, Birmingham, etc etc. Where the potential
audience is spread over a large area with less direct/frequent
transport links, it's harder for the potential audience to get
home after something & so less likely to attend. Venues need a
certain level of use to make financial sense.

As said elsewhere, I'd be surprised if Stadium MK is much more
than half of the cost of Twickenham.
