My wife and I were at Waterloo when the fans were returning.
It was impossible to tell from looking at them which side had
won. Both looked quite downbeat. My wife guessed Bath.
I watched the game later on catch up. I guess Saints fans
thought they had got away with it after playing really badly and
Bath fans were proud of the team but still lost.

I guess the early red has an effect. It goes from 'we' ll be the
best team in the country if we win' to 'we should win this or
we'll be a bit of a laughing stock'

Bath now have the foundations to be a top side for probably the
next 5/6 years. Not only a great first XV, but a bench and
others even not involved who won’t look out of place playing in
the final

Not a classic final but enthralling as either team could have
nicked it. It does amuse me that many say that a red card ruins
a final and blame everyone else apart from the perpetrator. It
will at some point concentrate the minds of the players. I
wanted a Saints victory but I think Bath are the team to kick on
next season as I don’t think their squad is changing much.

Given how red cards rarely result in blowouts, and that it's
fairly common for teams suffering red cards to win in pro rugby,
I doubt it's the latter. The recognition that they have an
advantage and they're not making the most of it or that they
need to do something other than their most successful tactic
definitely can affect a team, though

I've seen a couple of pundits, as well as people I was talking
to yesterday, saying that the Obano incident is why we need a 20
minute red card, ie after 20 mins they can bring a player back
on, as it ruins the game when the whole match is decided by a
single, marginal, technical incident of foul play early on.
However, I don't think it ruined yesterday's game at all. In
fact, I think the whole Bath fightback against the odds, was
what made the game absorbing. Initially, Saints started to pull
right ahead. Then Bath fought back, but I thought that in the
last 20 minutes being down a player would really tell for Bath,
but that's not what happened at all and full credit to Bath for
that.

The obano incident is why coaches need to stop paying lip
service to bringing down tackle height while sending their
players out to break people like bath did in the first half
yesterday.

I’m trying to think of a recent game when a red card did result
in a blowout.
The high profile games that come to mind were all still close.
England v Argentina
SA v NZ
Leinster v Toulouse
Saints v Bath
