       I agree and 12.
But, other than 12, I think we are probably slightly better off
       than last season.
Will has been replaced (I see it as pretty much like for like)
Lynagh can be replaced with an academy player. If the academy
player is better defensively, then that may be an improvement.
I am guessing that the plan is to have no marquee player for
       next season.
Therefore, the extra cap space has probably just been taken up
       with salary increases for:
Els, Palmer, Green, Browne, Trelholm, Carr, Driscoll, Murray &
       Anderson
       And maybe Chisholm and Care
And the 4 new academy players
I am thinking that Trelholm would have received quite a big
increase now that he is getting game time.

I'll reserve final judgment until I see how other teams
recruitment goes, and whether we get a really good defence
coach. But on a preliminary view, I think we'll do well to get
top 6 next season. And I'm not usually a pessimist.
One thing to correct: when Laurie says it's a transitional
period for a squad, he was very clearly talking about the
       women's side.

I have wondered if the recruitment that we did unexpectedly at
the end of last season with Will Josephs and CCS meant that we
either didn't need to or couldn't recruit this time around.

I said at the start of the contract renewal season that we
should expect more departures than arrivals. It's happened
across the league, and without seeing the full lists I think
Quins have lost fewer than most. The exceptions are the likes of
Exeter, whose clearout happened last year.
As for the cap, I stand by the view that we had a lot of
contracts that were negotiated pre the cap cut, which have only
counted 75% over the period the cap has been reduced. Just
factoring the full cost of those into the cap has probably used
       up most of the headroom.

That's a fair point - we've picked up some good players and we
may well have signed them on a "we can't pay much this season
but we can pay you properly next year" basis. CCS, Porter and
Joseph are certainly worth a decent wedge.

Barring Bath, no one is improving their squad.

a little light on props aren't we, 3 out and only one in? I
guess they feel we have enough cover.

Baxter's basically been promoted to at least equal with Marler,
and I believe the expectation is that Hobson will step up, which
       would make up the difference.

and when the Academy move up to First team, they see a big
       increase in salary

The social media team are pushing the academy kids hard today so
I suppose we have our answer. Let’s hope some of the promising
former academy guys are as good as they looked a few years back.
