O/T - Genge ruled out of the NZ tour

Just been posted on twitter that Genge has been ruled out by a
calf injury for 10 weeks, meaning he misses the tour to NZ. Some
commentators are pushing Fin B's name as a bolter call up to the
squad!

I'd have thought he was already in serious consideration even
before that. He is clearly a strong candidate for England's long
term loosehead, and he needs international experience if he is
going to fill that role by 2027. If I were Borthwick I'd also be
doing anything I could to entice Joe to tour so that there would
be at least one experienced loosehead in the squad.

I think he would have gone anyway even for seeing what the setup
is like and squad integration etc, but I expect he will defo get
minutes now. Wouldn’t be too surprised if Rodd,Obano and Baxter
go although it’s very inexperienced.

Fin has to tour, he’s been absolutely exceptional. He made the
team of the season for a reason. His performances have left
Marler on the bench in big games, and rightly so.
I’d be happy with Fin, Obano, and Rodd, but I understand why
people (and Borthwick) might want to take Marler too

Those three could well become the squad LHs for the future, but
it's a big ask to take three players with a handful of caps
between them to face the All Blacks in NZ

I wouldn't be surprised if Borthwick sees this as a reason to
bring back Farrell!

I thought Baxter would go anyway.
Genge will probably be glad of the break anyway what with last
season straight in to World Cup then in to this season, in to a
summer tour then potentially in to a Lions tour.
I’d have thought there’ll be a few players considering not
making themselves available to save burn out, on what will
probably be a tour to nothing anyway (hopefully not on a par
with the tour of death to Oz in 98)

I don't think Genge would be on the Lions tour anyway. It'll be
the two Irish looseheads and probably a Scot or welshie. The
Celtic Lions

It's not Gatland making the picks any more, though. You'd expect
Farrell to pick a decent few from the Irish team he's turned
into a serious force, but depending on how cynical you are he a)
is a good coach who will pick the best players available, b)
also knows the English squad pretty well or c) will throw a few
picks to Fazlet.
