prioritise winning on the field, then let the 'influencers' and
'gurus' have their say. From a marketing viewpoint, we should be
the most prominent club brand in the world, but it all means
bollix when we don't win anything. Geographically and
financially we should be the world's strongest side, Southern
and West London is only beaten by Antennarivo for the number of
players and clubs in the area. Our catchment area is massive, we
should be looking to Big Game attendances every match. Leinster,
Racing and SF should be our only competitors in terms of reach,
support, fanbase and attendance. The core is there, we ( the
marketing dept!) are trying, but I think without a radical
rethink from the Prem/RFU/ ERC not alot will change. Not a rant,
a small thesis, open to suggestions, I harbour many ideas ( not
nescarrily soutions!) but only want to profer them in a
constructive debate, I'm getting tired of being torn apart on
here for constructive opinion, which is too often misconstrued
as a must or should!

I think you make a good point here, BayernQuin, and even though
there are some equally good points made by others the digital
marketing side is pivotal today. What I think we are trying to
do is divorce the two though from an operational point of view
and Laurie/Billy seem to be the dividing line. We 100% need to
prioritise winning over everything else as you can have the best
digital marketing team in the world but your first XV is getting
gubbed every week, then it's not really a good product to sell.
I can't imagine Falcons fans/players are sitting there being
consoled by the latest corporate video that's just launched!
I like the continual Twatter/Insta videos of highlights from the
previous weekends games as it puts things in your mind about
upcoming events and ordering stuff, plus I get to share them
with wendyball ludites to show how entertaining our sport is so
we need it to go on.
One thing I do want to take issue with on the comments above is
re the Covid Loan repayments. Although not quoted in this guise
but I'm getting frustrated with sporting teams across multiple
disciplines all using that as an excuse for lack of spend or for
issues at the club as they chose to take it, as there's no
better money than somebody elses, and they knew the debt would
come due. As also pointed out above, we have some rich owners
who could have supported the club through that period and been
paid back on more favourable terms than the governments. I
accept that some teams were desperate and had to roll the dice
but I don't think we were, so........

the game beyond its current boundaries. Though I should caveat
that that is likely to mean more games at odd times, more half
time entertainment and ultimately fewer games at the Stoop
because sooner or later we'll have to vacate it to expand the
capacity.

I do not go to games to listen to bands - much if the music I
hear at sports is not what I would choose to pay to listen to
go to be entertained by the sport
There seems to be a new idea that sports fans are al idiots who
cannot concetrate or have a conversation if there is nothing
happening on the field and must therefore be sibjectred to loud
music which stops them chatting to the people near them

For this, we need as much money as possible. So, maximising
ticket and merchandising sales whilst reducing outgoings funds
this.

1M for the women's team that attracts a handful of people for
most games and for which tickets for all games are very cheap
I would rather we spend that money on a bjgger and better squad
so we can compete with sarries

Not really the club's choice though is it?
The owner (who is basically bank rolling us) says that he wants
one million quid of his money to be spent on the women's team
So, that is that.

LD confirmed we will spend to the cap next season, so there
isn't much else that can be done

Perhaps ask Sarries how that turned out for them before you wish
it on Quins, eh?
As one of what sounds like a fairly small group of clubs who are
expected to be spending up the cap next year, Quins are already
spending all they can on the men's team.
A second important point is that they are also getting almost
all the revenue they can from the men's team. The Stoop is sold
out for almost every home game, BG draws over 70k each year and
BSKO drew nearly 60k. The only real source of extra revenue is
to get home advantage for knockout games, and that's easier said
than done.
Spending £1m on the women's game is an investment (just as
underwriting £1m+ per year of losses on the men's game has been
an investment). Prices are low today because the club wants to
increase demand; attendance is growing steadily, and it's likely
to get another boost next year with the buildup to RWC 2025.
The marginal cost of running the women's squad alongside the
men's squad is low, but once the crowds pass a critical mass it
becomes profitable relatively quickly. The RFU and PWR have a
plan to have a sustainable, fully professional women's game
within 10 years.
You don't have to watch or even like women's rugby, just like
you don't have to like having bands at half time. It's not aimed
at you. In large part, it's aimed at reaching a different
audience who may not have supported professional rugby in the
past.
But if you want Quins to be a sustainable business that doesn't
rely on its owners' largesse, you should support any initiatives
that help with that.

I wonder if we could run an invitational event across a Friday
night and weekend with teams committed to putting their best
available squads out, a decent prize pot and group stage
followed by ko rounds. The pitch might take a battering but if
F1 can make it work, why not?
