Yes - this is great news. He has had injury problems (as
mentioned above).
I would love to have seen him and Jack Clifford playing together
for long spells - Jack Clifford, another player unfortunately
cut down by injury well before he reached his prime.

I may be misremembering but I thought he said on the live
Podcast that he preferred 7

Is it time for the annual "What could have been" XV?
A side that had a fully fit Clifford, JTH, Lowe and both
Chisholms alongside some of the talent that's come through since
and some of the talent that's still around would have been well
worth seeing.

Clifford was a very sad situation. He was the perfect link
between Minty & Dommers and would have been England's 8 over
Billy 'punch up' V as he was a dynamic carrier but his hands
were those of a concert pianist. Such a shame.
Good news re Chis though, 6 backup to CCS and both can play 8 if
Dommers is away.

Clifford was such a complete player and so frustrating that
England never got to see his best. Three playing moments stand
out for me:
1) The JRWC Final where England were down significantly against
Wales at half time, and he singlehandedly dragged them back into
it. Possibly the single best individual performance I've seen on
a rugby pitch, in terms of the impact on the result.
2) England XV vs the BaaBaas, where he created three tries,
including one where he fielded a terrible pass at ankle height
and still managed to fix the defence and release the outside
backs.
3) The try he created in the 6N, where there was a pile of
bodies on the line and he squirmed forward just enough to create
a hole for Youngs to dot down the ball.

Personally I thought we missed out by not playing Tom Guest more
at 8.

It's been a failing we've had in a number of key positions
historically. When NEv was fit, he was the nailed on starter, so
all his backups over the years could only rely on the occasional
10min cameo at the end of a game or a start in the
Anlgo-Welsh/Prem Cup/Whatever it's called that year. Same for
Mike Brown, Minty, etc. Heck, you can even say that apart from
Karl, DC's backups even up til now suffer from not getting
enough hard game time with the First XV players to get that
intuitive understanding of what the other player's going to
decide to do in a given situation.

It's a fair point - we often criticise backups for not playing
well in cameos, only to find that if they end up with a run of
games their performance improves a lot.
That said, we've had some pairings over the years whose
understanding of each other's games was uncanny and I suspect
very hard to replicate. Minty and DC each knew exactly where to
be for the offload when one of them made a break, and Dommers
picks lines off Marcus that I think only the pair of them know
are going to happen.
I'd put Robbo's ability to be in the right place at the right
time in the same category, but it's probably more easily
explained by the pair of him existing in all places on the pitch
simultaneously until an important breakdown collapsed their
wavepacket.
