and now from the club

Harlequins are pleased to confirm back-row Will Trenholm has
extended his contract with the Club ahead of the 2024/25 season.
The Academy graduate, who has achieved 14 first-team
appearances, has featured in three Gallagher Premiership
fixtures this season, alongside Investec Champions Cup knockout
matches against Glasgow Warriors and Bordeaux.
The flanker, who joined the Club at the age of 13, made his
competitive debut in 2022 against London Irish, before being
named the 2022/23 Academy Player of the Season following an
impressive loan spell with London Scottish in the Championship.

Commenting on his new contract, Trenholm said: “I absolutely
love this Club. We have a great group of lads who I love playing
with, and our coaching team are excellent. It’s been an amazing
season, I’ve learnt so much and I’ve loved being part of some
big moments in the Premiership and Champions Cup. I’m excited to
re-sign and I can’t wait to progress even further.”
Director of Rugby Billy Millard added: “Will has worked hard for
his opportunity this season and shown great improvement
throughout his game. He’s an exciting talent and we’re looking
forward to his continued impact in 2024/25.”

Good stuff. Certainly hasn't looked out of place when he's
played this season

He's looked fairly useful. Hopefully we can keep James for
another season whilst Will transitions into the more regular
option off the bench/starting when needed.
Also find it interesting this is the first announcement for
contract related news. Hopefully im not reading too much into
it, but i'm (shock horror) increasingly pessimistic we will have
any real quality coming in to replace the 3 key first teamers
leaving.

In previous years, they have started with smaller signings
earlier in the week and built up to the bigger reveals later in
the week.

It depends on what you mean by "real quality". I think you
probably mean something like "established big names".
Historically, Quins have had more success promoting from within
or plucking players from obscurity and developing them than they
have hiring known quantities; Andre is one of the exceptions.
If we look at the XXIII from Sunday, it splits down:
- Homegrown (10) - Baxter, Marler, Riley, Collier, Hammond,
Smith, Murley, Lynagh, Chisholm, Beard
- Acquired below market value (11) Walker, Kerrod, Herbst, Evans
x2, CCS, Dombrandt, Care, Porter, Green, Northmore
- Established international before we got them (2) Lewies,
Esterhuizen
Of those in the middle category, how many would we have said had
"real quality" before they came here, and how many have shown it
since? I'd say only Care, CCS and J Evans generated a lot of
excitement (though in the latter case mostly from Cardiff fans)
before they arrived. All of the others have arrived having not
been pro 1st XV players but have reached that level with Quins.

When I've seen Trenholm plays; he looks like the real deal.
Very, very strong on the carry and hits hard in defence. Looks
like a no8 to me. Looking forward to how he develops over the
next month's and years.

Now need to do the same with Hyde & Bradley and chance that we
can move them into first team players with enough game time.
Save the Andre money as we can't really replace him anyway
