Harlequins have named their Big Summer Kick-Off squad for
Saturday’s Gallagher Premiership fixture against Northampton
Saints (KO 15:05 – tickets here).
With 60,000 supporters expected at Twickenham Stadium,
Harlequins have bolstered their starting XV with the return of
experienced duo Will Collier and Danny Care, alongside Luke
Northmore who makes his first start since October.
In the engine room, Fin Baxter and Will Collier pack down
alongside hooker Jack Walker. Irne Herbst and Stephan Lewies
continue at second-row, with Chandler Cunningham-South and Will
Evans on the flanks. Alex Dombrandt continues at number eight.
In the backs, Danny Care returns at scrum-half to partner Marcus
Smith. Andre Esterhuizen and Luke Northmore form the centre
combination, with Cadan Murley and Louis Lynagh on the wings,
and Tyrone Green at fullback.
Amongst the Impact Players, there’s plenty of firepower with
front-row replacements Sam Riley, Joe Marler and Simon Kerrod,
joining second-row George Hammond and back-row Tom Lawday. Will
Porter and Jarrod Evans provide experience in the halves, with
centre Oscar Beard adding plenty of versatility.

Director of Rugby Billy Millard commented: “We’re excited for
Saturday. These big matches at Twickenham are always special and
the players are looking forward to another great challenge. The
group have prepared well, we know Northampton are a tough
opponent and we’re expecting another fierce battle in front of a
big home crowd.”

Saints name team to face Harlequins at Twickenham
Friday 26 April, 2024
Phil Dowson has named his Northampton Saints side to travel to
Twickenham Stadium on Saturday (27 April, kick-off: 3.05pm), as
they take on Harlequins in the Big Summer Kick Off.
Saints sit top of the Gallagher Premiership after claiming a
40-17 victory over Leicester Tigers in the East Midlands derby
last weekend, heading into Round 16 five points clear at the top
of the league table.
The men in Black, Green and Gold scored five tries against
Harlequins in the reverse fixture at cinch Stadium at Franklin’s
Gardens, with scores from Ollie Sleightholme, Lewis Ludlam, Alex
Mitchell and Alex Coles sealing a dramatic 36-33 victory.
Ludlam leads Saints at Twickenham, with Courtney Lawes and Sam
Graham returning to the starting line-up to join the Saints
captain in the back row.
Dowson rings the changes in front of them in the tight five;
Emmanuel Iyogun, Sam Matavesi and Trevor Davison make up a fresh
front row, while Temo Mayanavanua and Tom Lockett pair up in the
engine room to make their first appearances at HQ for
Northampton.
Fin Smith returns to the starting XV to join Mitchell in the
half-back berths, with Tom Litchfield shifting to inside centre
to allow Tommy Freeman to start in Northampton’s midfield.
George Furbank reprises his role at fullback against Harlequins
and is joined in Saints’ back three with Sleightholme and James
Ramm to complete the starting line-up.
And Northampton opt for a 6-2 split on their bench this weekend,
with the likes of Tarek Haffar, Chunya Munga, Angus Scott-Young,
Juarno Augustus and Fraser Dingwall all set to enter the action
at Twickenham.

Good Quins side.
Be interesting to see how Saints centre partnership shapes up.
Dingwall is their linchpin and surprised he's been benched.
No Coles or Moon at lock. Being saved for Leinster presumably.

It feels like Quins might have an advantage in the tight five,
even once the bench is factored in, but having Augustus on the
bench suggests that Saints are looking to power things up in the
last 20.
Outside of that it’s two fantastic backlines going at each
other. The weather forecast is for a warmer day with
intermittent sun and showers, so a bit of a mixed bag for
running rugby. It may come down to who makes the fewest mistakes
under the conditions.
If there are a lot of scrums, I’d be fairly confident that Quins
will win a few penalties and that could give us a slight edge.
If we don’t see many handling errors, it will probably come down
to how many defensive errors Quins make against a Saints
backline that is excellent at exploiting a gap.

If it comes down to how many defensive errors we make, that
could be a big problem.
