       Dickson as sir for Saturday

More proof the powers that be just do not have any sense.
There is a lot of scrutiny of potential bias (the recent VAR
Nottingham Forest scandal etc) but why not avoid the argument
completly and just assign refs with no association to a club
they will be making important decisions on. From a Saints
perspective, he could show bias, but my perspective is that he
will be overly harsh to avoid accusations of bias. Neither could
be true of course, but anything contentious either way and its
       just an unnecessary debate.
That of course aside, he just isn't that great

More bias shown towards his club or his brother's?

I'm not sure why he would have loyalty to his brothers club over
one he spent a fair few years at, but I guess it's me posting so
it has to be questioned in some way. Which ever way you look at
it, his appointment as the official opens up potential
accusations either way (of being too lenient in preference of
his old club or too harsh to make a point), which just should
have been avoided to begin with.

He's awful, and carries himself like he's got a very high
       opinion of himself now.
As per the above comments, why risk the potential claims of bias
in the game at HQ with the higher attention it will get as a
       result.

Not sure I’ve ever questioned you before, MQ.
Clumsily put but my point was that Dixon is a Prem panel ref.
When he started, I believe his brother was still playing for
       Saints.
So it was understandable that he wouldn’t ref Saints or Quins
when he first started which I believe is what happened.
But at what point does that end? When is he AN Other Prem ref?

I think he's one of the better refs in te Prem games.

I just think it should be across the board, if you've played for
someone, or have some kind of loyalty or vested interest in a
side (such as being a supporter, or having close ties in some
way) it would be advisable(and wise) to avoid taking charge.
Considering sir for the other fixture, the two could have been
swapped very easily to avoid the issue to begin with. For what
it's worth, I dont think Karl would set out with any intention
to favor either side. It's purely avoiding that argument to
begin with. Obviously there may be times in the schedule its not
workable, but in this instance there is no reasonable answer why
whoever scheduled the officials to not take it into
       consideration.
If I went for a job interview and someone was on the panel I
previously worked with and had good memories of, It would be the
correct practice to highlight that as its probably advisable not
to have them part of the process, to avoid any potential
allegations of favoritism (even if that person is the most
professional manager going), but if I got the job I'd imagine
someone who felt possibly hard done by would use that, even if
it simply was they weren't the right candidate. I appreciate
this example isn't exactly like for like, but the premise is the
       same for my rationale.

How do you know what soft spots the other refs once had (or even
have) for certain clubs? I'm sure most (if not all) of them came
into rugby as lovers of the game first and foremost - so it's
presumably quite likely they have clubs they would have
gravitated towards as "fans", whether that be through locality
or just because... Where do you draw the line with disclosures
       of that kind?
There's bias in everything, but these refs are paid by the RFU
to perform an impartial (with natural human bias and error
factored in) role, applying the laws of the game. I personally
will never view it any other way - and I'm sure the referees and
the RFU don't either - so as long as things don't spill over
into the abusive, it hardly matters what the fans might think of
Karl Dickson making a marginal decision for or against Quins...
whether it has a bearing on the result or not.
Now if things were to spill over into spectators directly
abusing a ref, that's another conversation - and would largely
fall at the door of the RFU to put things in place to best
protect and support the refs... There have been incidents and
those should rightly be dealt with firmly, but I haven't noticed
this trending towards crisis point specific to a
       Dickson-reffing-Quins or Ridley-reffing-Tigers type scenario.
       It's a non-issue as things stand.

All refs have some sort of bias. Barnes always used to give
decisions in favour of whichever team he deemed to be on top,
making it much harder to change momentum.
Should Pearce never ref Exeter because he lives there? Same
       previously with Barnes and quins.
       I like Dickson as a ref but I know a lot don't.
You'd expect Saturday to get high scoring. Two positive teams.
So doubt the ref will come into it that much.
