6 nations, rugby and football world cups, Wimbledon etc.
Protected is probably the wrong word but I couldn’t remember
what they were called. Not even sure about the 6 nations these
       days.

This is the list of Designated events

/>The 6 Nations is currently Category B (can be shown
first/primarily on Pay TV as long as sufficient Free to air
coverage such as highlights/delayed coverage is available on
       "free to air" platforms).

The first thing that springs to mind is the recent football
match being shown that featured Borehamwood. I can't imagine
they have more fans than your average Premiership rugby team.

I thought that was on TNT.

I think that the TV companies don't pay enough for the TV
       rights.
For example, compare the rugby deal to the football EFL deal -
"Running from season 2024/25 to 2028/29, the arrangement will be
made up of guaranteed payments of £895m and £40m in marketing
       benefits."

I don't know what the rugby deal is but the Sky EFL deal is for
just over 1000 matches per season.
Also, did Sky actually bid for the rugby? I thought they weren't
       interested.

The BT deal was around £35 million per season. (Guesses are that
the amount that TNT paid is less than this.)
Compared to £234 million per season for the EFL.
Rugby TV rights are a bargain.

Only if they get the viewers.

Of course, yes - but -
surely, Plymouth vs QPR doesn't get many viewers - does it?
