TNT with their expert “insight” during the game is really
shocking. It was even worse yesterday than our Sarries home
match with a female commentator whose name escapes me. She was
essentially just saying random words to sound good, but at least
didn’t appear to suck Sarries off too much.

I don’t think you should single her out. Dallaglio and Woodward
have been doing that for years.
On the other hand, the Scotland v England W6N game yesterday had
Brian Moore as co-commentator and it was a reminder of just how
professional he is as a broadcaster. He’s still up to date in
terms of the game, but was aware that he was commentating with a
less experienced partner and for an audience who might know less
about rugby and steered the discussion towards explaining what
was going on in quite a subtle and natural way.

What all those explanations about 3-2-3, or 3-1-3, or whatever
were completely subtle and natural, were they?

It was the only time I’ve come across her and thankfully haven’t
since. The names you’ve mentioned I just ignore when speaking
now as I know it’s usually something completely biased or
incorrect.
A bit like when watching football and it was Jermaine Jenas
commentating

I’ve got a feeling that the game was syndicated from a French
broadcaster hence why there were no repeats early this morning
and it is ‘locked’ on the championship website. I was out all
yesterday and my recording had a technical fault ( I forgot to
press record!), and I Ive looked everywhere to watch a post
match recording with no luck. Oh well will deffo be at the next
game
On that note does anyone know what the connotations are for the
semi, home, away depends on result etc ………

What I was picking up on was that after a couple o phases where
they'd talked about that, he used a break in play to explain
what it meant.

I got frustrated with the TNT coverage and cancelled it back in
September. I reactivated it for the run in. It’s definitely got
worse.
The English colour commentators other than Flatman are
absolutely unbearable to listen to, although warburton and BOD
definitely add value. They’ve always done this, but the English
guys they have (Kay and Healey in particular) really do come in
with an agenda and it’s unlistenable.
Which is fine, If you watch with the sound off!

Kay has really gone downhill in recent years. He never used to
be as bad as he has been this year. Austin has always been
marmite but his obsession with pointing out every reffing
decision he thinks is wrong is very tedious. Half the time he’s
wrong anyway.
For me, it’s unwatchable when it’s Leinster or Munster on. Full
love in with no attempt at impartiality.
