They were both very good. Couldn't have done it without Carling,

I remember watching as a young pup the era when Carling and de
Glanville were starting and Guscott was on the bench. England
would huff and puff for 60 minutes and then Guscott would come
on, score three tries and chalk up the win.
I used to wonder why he was restricted to the subs' bench, and
it was only when I was wiser in the ways of rugby that I
realised how essential the initial huff and puff phase was to
creating the space for Guscott to do his thing. It was one of
the earliest examples of a truly tactical substitution in rugby.
