Telegraph - Will Evans has international quality

Great article on WEv by Charlie Morgan
  HTML https://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/2024/04/08/will-evans-harlequins-england-breakdown-champions-cup/
In short - great breakdown skills, great tackling (volume and
quality), great engine, great decision making, and has obviously
       improved since last season.
Real shame for him that the queue for the 7 shirt for England is
so long. He's really become a big tackler and improved his
carrying while remaining a big threat at the breakdown. Giving
       away significantly fewer penalties apparently.

If he was 3-4 years younger I think he'd be capped by now. Sadly
for up coming 7s, Pepper and Pollard will be the next bolters in
my view for those already not in and around England (Pearson
       etc)

England's lack of heavy duty carriers is also a barrier to
selection. Picking an out and out jackal like Evans when the
pack already lacks a bit of grunt probably isn't going to
happen. For all his attributes, Curry, Pearson, Underhill and
Earl (if classing as a 7) are all better carriers.
Class player and selfishly delighted we have him year round.

If we had two mobile monsters, like Dallaglio and Hill, then (on
the Neil Back principle) we could presumably find room for WEv,
but until we do it won't happen will it?

very good article, wonder if he would be given a go on the
summer tour, these summer tours especially the first one after a
World cup should be used to get to know some of the fringe
players more (IMO) not just using the same players where we
already know what they can do.

Back was a pretty hard carrier himself, of course, and very,
       very fast.
I've noticed WEv doing more carrying this season, but he's very
much in the Robshaw mould - unlikely to make a break or big
yards (I can still remember the look of bemusement on Chris's
face when he broke a tackle and found himself in open space),
but good at tying up a couple of defenders and getting quick
       clean ball back.
I think he is behind a lot of other players in the queue,
though, if only because there are others who offer more of an
all round game. Quins will be happy to
have him around, though. Of our current crop of back rowers, I'd
expect Kenningham to have a better shot if he can stay fit - he
has WEv's strengths but is also a good carrier and lineout
       option.
WEv's best shot may well be in the summer tour of the Lions
season - England coaches traditionally use that tour to
experiment with fringe players (and occasionally find someone
who becomes a future first choice)

What's he like in the lineout?

Good straight ball taken unimpeded by the Quins jumper and then
shipped quickly on to the 9, I'd imagine.
Isn't that what most players like?

I doubt he made it out of Harleaux.
