It's never not funny seeing how big a hole he'll dig for himself
trying to defend the indefensible. The amateur psychologist in
me is fascinated watching the torturous twists in logic and the
evident cognitive dissonance on display.
Point taken, though. Have a fabulous bank holiday weekend,

Come on chap. You're usually pretty good at staying vague and
employing half-truths so you can't get called out as a massive
spoofer, but you're seriously suggesting that a guy who starts
games pretty much exclusively when the other player in his
position is away on international duty, and doesn't start any of
the big games in a season, is first choice. You've exposing
yourself hideously and nobody is impressed.

I've said Spencer was first choice when he left Saracens, and in
the season before that. This isn't a gotcha and can anybody
really be bothered to check the injury status of Richard
Wigglesworth 7 years ago? No, me neither.
There's also the other situation where Spencer has still not
been picked for England while he's been a Bath player which I
mentioned. It's not the club shirt he's worn that makes his
England omission scandalous.

Right - and we all get that, you can't just repeat the same
stuff which has already been forensically torn apart.
Here are the stats. Sure they only go back a decade, but that
should be sufficient. Spencer starts 62% of all games, which
considering he's been 1st choice for Bath (89% starts) is pretty
damning. He started for Sarries 58 times out of 139. 42%. Oh
yeah, they really rated him.
2017/18 - 13 prem starts out of 24 for Sarries
2018/19 - 14/21
2019/20 3/10
Which year is he 1st choice? 17/18 he's definitely behind
Wiggles. 18/19 he probably finally overtook Wigglesworth as
first choice around Jan or Feb 2019.
Except then...well...19/20 he goes back to 2nd choice again.
He's played well for Bath - but he went there during covid when
he was what, 28? Unfortunately, as Jammy says, probably too
late.

Let's contrast Danny, who according to you is unfit to tie Ben's
laces. In that same decade he's started 211/230 matches for
Quins, 92%.
In the first year Ben was at Bath (and FINALLY first choice) he
scored 3 tries. Danny scored 12.
Whatever way you look at it, Danny's accomplishments as an
individual massively outweigh Ben's, and before you go "how many
premierships? How many European cups?" well, more than Ben since
he went to Bath, which is the part of his career which you
believe merited being first choice for England.
Perhaps if Saracens had backed the better all-rounder, rather
than the box-kicking bore, Ben might have had a proper chance to
prove himself in the test arena. same as Goode/Fazz really.
Unfortunately Bath don't produce too many long-term England
players in recent years, probably because their results are so
up and down due to changing half their personnel each season and
having very little quality academy output. Presumably they will
only struggle more since their real academy went into
administration at the end of last season.
