knows how many assists, two titles that he has been one of the

thousand years old and still scoring for fun, still schooling
teams with his attacking skills, and is likely to finish his
career as second only to Chris Ashton as a try scoring machine -
the only non back 3 player in the top ten.

I base first choice on league appearances.
Yes, Danny Care is a Harlequins legend. That's what I said.

Okay, so to boil it down, you're saying that the guy who was on
the bench for all bar one of the seven Champions Cup matches,
and for both the semi final and final in the league, was first
choice - because you chose to ignore more than 20% of his
matches that season and decided the rest didn't matter, even
though they were in a competition a step above the league.
Extremely silly to have a first choice player that isn't trusted
to start any of the important games, eh. One would expect a
first choice player to actually start most of the competitive
matches he plays in. Picking up a few starts because the first
choice was injured or during the 6N when the first choice is
       away with England isn't enough.
Richard Wigglesworth, whose season was disrupted by injury,
started 61% of his 18 league matches (including the final and
the semi final), and 100% of his 7 Champions Cup matches. When
available, he was preferred above Spencer more often than not in
the league, and every time in Europe + the playoffs. Despite the
injuries, he started 17 league and European matches. Spencer
(who did not have the same injuries to deal with) started just
14, despite being fit enough to make the squad 31 times to
Wiggy's 24. It's extremely clear that Saracens preferred
Wigglesworth, and when push came to shove and Wigglesworth was
fit, the only two matches Spencer started in his final eight
were against relegated Irish and easy beats saints.
Wigglesworth was the go-to. That is what happens when you are
       first choice, like he was.
You've tied yourself into a pretzel again.

Sorry Mars, it's pretty clear he was second choice behind the
utterly one-dimensional Wigglesworth. No wonder he wasn't really
       on the England radar.

I can't imagine being a first choice player and kicking my heels
on the bench when Wiggy was around except for a couple of
runouts against a relegated team and a Saints side in absolute
freefall. Watching Wigglesworth come back from the 6N then start
6 of remaining 8 matches - the run in to the playoffs, the semi
final, the final, and the Champions Cup quarter final tie
against Leinster - must have been an extremely bitter pill to
       swallow.
Or maybe not, given he sat on the bench another ten times
earlier in the season and probably got extremely used to seeing
       Wigglesworth ahead of him

Nobody has said any matches don't matter. I've said a club's
best team is manifest in the league. Cup matches are important
but all serious teams start the season with the league at the
       priority.
It is marvellous seeing you confidently recall the injury
timelines of Saracens players from 6 years ago though. I can't
even remember if I had a cold 6 years ago let alone what the
condition of a professional rugby player's body was in,
especially of a team I don't even support. Very impressive
       recall.

He had a rough season for injuries and talked about it a lot.
Wigglesworth had a hip injury against Clermont, for example,
that cost him a few weeks. That injury alone accounted for 2 of
Spencer's league starts and his only Europe start. Add in his 4
starts when Wiggy was away with England - bookended by being
benched - and that's almost 50% of his league starts that season
(6/13). I'm sorry that having the facts to hand is offensive to
you, but I do recommend having them before arguing against
       obvious statements.
Anyway, if the league was the priority then why, when
Wigglesworth was available, did he start ahead of Spencer so
often? Why was his starting percentage in the league higher? Why
did he start the large majority of the matches post 6N, taking
the shirt straight back from Spencer? Why did he start the semi
       final and final?
You know the answer why: it's because he was first choice, and
Spencer was just a backup. And the more you scweam and scweam
that it's just not true, to the extent that you're now trying to
cast doubt on the existence of facts, the more silly you look.
It's okay to rate him! It's very silly to pretend he was first
choice that season or for any season that wasn't 2018/19!
