I don't like being told what to think and how to react. Still
never heard of her, as is my right. Plus, if Quins end up
semi-pro or amateur I'll still follow them.

That would wake a few up and I'm in. Think Drowning Pool and
Bodies (Let the bodies hit the floor!) would fit well,
especially with that old boy with them on youtube

I really don't agree with this.
Not a comment on Jess Glynne. Heard of her, not my thing but I
know she's a big name who'll appear to some, so well done the
club. I couldn't really care less who the performer is. If it's
someone I like, then great. If not, who cares.
But if the sport I love turns into the sideshow to something
else, it has already died. I don't think that is happening at
all, but I don't agree that rugby has to turn into the 100
       (cricket) in order to survive

IMO, BSKO and BG aren't aimed at the 15,000 who got to the
Stoop; or even the few dozen who post on here. The aim is to
       appeal to the casual fan.
With that aim, it makes sense to have a day of entertainment -
not just the game but everything around that. From over the
walkover to the fireworks; Jess Glynn to Masseoke.
That doesn't make the game a sideshow any more than the Olympics
is overshadowed by the Opening Ceremony nor the Superbowl by the
       halftime show.

For the past 30 years, club rugby has been unprofitable.
Leicester (with a unique ownership model and the biggest
stadium) and Exeter (who funded development of Sandy Park by
selling their old ground at a big profit) managed to turn a
profit but everyone else has been losing money year on year.
Post-COVID, everyone is unprofitable, and the club closest to
making an operating profit is Quins - which wouldn't be the case
       without BG and BSKO.
The whole point of the Big Games is to attract a different
audience. The club faithful will turn up to watch them play
Newcastle on a wet winter's evening, but they aren't enough to
fill Twickenham. Attracting a wider crowd means making it a day
out - hence the fan village and the music acts.
I would imagine the club has a pretty good idea now of what sort
of act sells the most tickets for the amount of outlay, and will
have watched what sort of announcement drives a spike in sales.
It's interesting that we've shifted from talent show winners in
the early games to DJs who actually want to be there (for the
Big Games) and iive performers who are big (but not too big) for
       BSKO.
The best option is probably someone who appeals to a fairly
broad range of people but is a particular draw for the under
35s, and who doesn't usually play to a crowd of 50-80,000 but is
playing a range of gigs in that summer for which BSKO acts as a
dry run. That way, you get a mutually beneficial arrangement and
Quins probably aren't charged full whack for a short set.

It's a difficult balancing act trying to keep the traditional
support happy whilst trying to generate the next generation of
fans. I can only speak of personal experience, but I have two
daughters who I have trying to get into rugby for years. We went
to the last BG, and they absolutely loved the whole spectacle -
although I did spend the whole game trying to explain the rules.
But the best part was after the game, my eldest asked when the
next game we could go to was - this would not have happened
after a regular game at the Stoop. For me, I can put up with a
few minutes of entertainment and razzmatazz, if it means more
bums on seats in the future

Who knows if she’s being paid for performing at BSK. For all we
know the deal is that she performs a few numbers in order to
promote her new album at an event that will be widely screened
and it’s all part of the general promotion of your product.
AFAIK when you appear on TV or are on a radio program to promote
your latest product, you don’t get paid. It’s free advertising.
Anyway, I know who she is and I hope everyone enjoys the
music, it’s not like you have to pay extra for it. It’s a bit
like they’re offering free Guinness but you don’t like the dark
       stuff so you complain.
