I was really hoping that they were going to announce that it was
going to be Madness performing.
For much the same reason really. I have seen Suggs appearing on
the telly a few times over the last week talking about their new
album and new tour.
I must confess that Jess Glynne is not my 1st choice performer.
But, I appreciate that she is a big name and I think that it is
a big signing by the club.

Never heard of this Jess lass, but I wish her well.
Just disappointed it wasn't Slayer, considering they've now come
out of retirement.

If the sport is not appealing enough to entice people to watch
then it deserves to die
Football does not need so called "entertainment" the sport is
what entices people to grounds
And I genuinely have never heard of here - sorrry but that is a
fact

I am not sure what the economics of this is.
That is, I have no real feel for how many extra tickets will she
sell versus how much Quins have to pay her to perform.
She does not appear to be playing huge venues on the summer
tour.

Ben Glynn would be preferable.

To be fair, there's few acts who are playing the big stadium
gigs nowadays apart from a few massive names (e.g. Taylor Swift)
or legacy acts (Rolling Stones, U2, etc). Once you get over a
certain size venue, the costs are massively increased & you have
to be able to sell tickets well into the 3 figure level
(price-wise) to make it pay. Plus you need to play at that level
around the world and put on more that just a gig, it has to be a
whole "experience" for the crowd (think massive video screens,
effects, fireworks, etc as a start).
Looking at where she's playing, a number of the venues are ones
that are getting a reputation for being good for both the
performer and the audience alike. As a concert-goer, you're not
so far away from the stage that the performers are just vague
blobs. From a performers point of view, you get good audience
engagement and your FOH engineer has a lot easier job on the
mix. It also means there's more venues you can book on a tour of
a similar size to make sure you maximize the tour schedule.
Don't forget we hosted Elton John at The Stoop, which is of the
same sort of capacity as a lot of the venues on her tour
schedule!
Let's take The Piece Hall in Halifax as an example. Other acts
that are playing there this summer include Blondie, Sheryl Crow,
Crowded House, Grace Jones, Bryan Adams, Tom Jones, & The
Stranglers. Last year it hosted one of the biggest bands of the
year in boygenius. Hardly "struggling acts"! As I said earlier,
it's not particularly my taste (I'm more into indie acts out of
the newer bands/singers around) but she's definitely a big name
in the industry.

Well that and cold, hard cash. We'll be paying her tens of
thousands of pounds to turn-up.
This site:
HTML https://tinyurl.com/mzcew7ej
reckons that to book her
in the US for an event is $150k - $299k. I have no idea how
accurate that is and it would depend on things like whether she
has to travel to the US specially, who covers costs etc. The
point is booking someone like that costs a fair wad of cash and
who we get largely depends on how much the club wants to pay.
We could probably have got Rihanna, like that Indian wedding
recently, but it would have cost ~£5m.
