Aren't there playoff's involving the Top 4 teams (similar to the
Premiership) ?

This season, yes. But knowing they could be promoted is a pretty
strong recruitment tool. If they have the backing I could see
them being ready in 2-3 years. Might also light a fire under
Ealing to work out their stadium strategy...

But they've been approved previously for promotion and still
aren't in the position to achieve it on the playing side.
But after the demise of Leeds (and their various incarnations),
Yorkshire could sorely do with representation at the top level.
Would also allow for "King of the North" style games with Sale
and Newcastle.

No. The top team wins the Championship. If the stadium is
eligible, they go on to play the bottom Premiership team in a
two legged play-off for promotion.

Based 5,000 capacity Bedford, Coventry, Doncaster and Ealing
AFAIK but I'm guessing only Doncaster have the potential
planning permission. I've heard that Ealing wouldn't get it and
traditionally Bedford aren't interested in promotion; no idea
about Coventry.

How much space do the amateurs need? It's a huge site as it was
an 18 hole golf course before LI purchased it

Coventry are apparently interested, but are not ready for a push
just yet. They plan to improve their ground to meet capacity.
But it is not that long ago, that they were down in National 1.
Ironically, the brief presence of Wasps RFC did a lot for the
profile of the game, and that help Coventry increase their
gates.
The Championship sides are hoping for a decision from the RFU
about the future size, funding and possible rebranding of the
Championship next weekend.
Elsewhere, Leeds are visiting Rotherham this week. Now there
are two names from the past. Currently, both seeking promotion
from National 2 North. The West Yorkshire side are five points
ahead with four to play. So I win for Rotherham would make for a
very interesting run in.
