It's entirely unclear what problem that is a solution for.

I suppose it would help the Welsh (yes I am capable of altruism)
and we would have a proper fixture list with 14 teams.
If the Scots, Italians and Irish want to join in then thats 21
semi viable clubs to form a league of some sort?

I always thought that we would be better off joining with the
Scottish clubs being that they are actual clubs rather than
       regions.
It would help teams such as Falcons as Newcastle is closer to
Edinburgh than it is to Sale and the East Midlands.
It would only take 2 teams out of the URC - which would probably
help to balance their competition a bit.
TV revenue would probably be better as there would be no
requirement to show games free to air (as I think there is in
       Wales).

Why don't we just keep an English league?

The Scottish Regions are not clubs, they are wholly owned by the
       SRU.

An English league of only 10 is not really commercially viable
for the clubs, and there are no clubs that could be promoted
without taking on a load of debt, never mind the whole
premiership share structure and CVC ownership. Therefore all
options need to be considered to create a viable league with
       sufficient fixtures.
Weren't you bemoaning a lack of meaningful fixtures on another
       thread?

If we're doing fantasy stuff, if the French want to just give
each of our clubs 10m a year that would also be great. Why on
earth would those sides want to join us?!
I absolutely cannot see the point of filling out the English
league with some absolutely dross Welsh clubs. It would only
benefit Wales. I'm no fan of the Championship sides' attitudes
to the sport but even I would prefer actual English clubs take
their place in the Premiership rather than just adding foreign
teams to the detriment of English rugby.
The Welsh sides have no fans, no money, and very little on-field
quality. English rugby is struggling financially but the answer
isn't to degrade the quality of the league and spread the money
more thinly without even benefiting more English teams. If 10
teams is too few (and I'm not convinced that 14 isn't too many)
and there is no alternative solution to the financial problem
than just adding teams, add Championship sides. They will be
just as bad as the Welsh teams but at least it will benefit
English rugby in the long run.
Realistically what should be happening is a cold calculation of
exactly what it would take to make English rugby sustainable
again and to cut our cloth accordingly. Unfortunately, the
obsession with European competition and the fear of losing all
our best players make that unpalatable to most.

       No.
I was suggesting that fixtures which aren't meaningful shouldn't
be included in the formula for calculating resale compensation,
if Quins don't want to continue losing half a mill each year.
Can you imagine what would happen to season ticket prices if the
       Welsh teams joined?
There were 7 league games at the stoop. Now there are an extra 4
       - so we'll be generous and just increase ST prices by 50%.

Well, this changes things a bit:

For the first time in a long while we have a Champ team that
would be allowed to come up, and in an underserved area of the
country. For me, that shifts the burden on the phoenix clubs to
show that they are a better prospect (though it also potentially
creates a space for one of them in the Championship).

Fully agree except with 6 matches to go Doncaster are 4th and 14
points behind Trailfinders. It'll take some doing to catch them.
