Conor O'Shea made a clarifying comment on the selection that the
A squad is very much a development squad with a few older heads
to provide experience, but that there are a number of players
who would get the call up to the senior squad ahead of the A
players. The way it was reported was as if it was in response to
a question about Mercer, so the assumption is that he is one of
them.

I think when you come out publicly and throw your toys out the
pram for not getting selected, and coming across like he was
owed selection regardless of form, it's not surprising hes no
where to be seen. That said, it is his own head coach running
the show, but then that suggests its clearly been rubber stamped
by others.

Looking at it without the context of Mercer's time in France
affecting things, it's hard to make a claim that he obviously
deserves to be there ahead of the players who have been
selected.

I guess Zac doesn't do brown nose, regardless of being voted
player of the season during his tenure across T14 as a winning
team member. RFU not keen on winners and their experience it
seems.
Ho hum
Twas ever thus

Yeah he had one good season so that means he must play for
England forever. That sounds like a solid strategy for a squad!
In that case Ibitoye and OLH should still be in there

Please amplify and detail your assertion - I'm happy to
understand your POV, but at this stage you sound like a 4 year
old

OK. I’ll bite.
Mercer should have been in the RWC Squad as the best performing
8 at the time. He has a right to feel aggrieved about that,
particularly considering how poor Billy V was. However, I think
Dombrandt arguably had a greater reason to be upset having been
the man in possession of the shirt. The contrast in the way they
responded tells you everything you need to know …
Mercer started the season well but then got injured. In the
meantime, Dombrandt started the season on fire along with
Barbeary. By the time it got to the Big Game, Mercer was back
but was totally outplayed by Dommers.
Come the 6N announcement, Dombrandt got a well deserved recall.
Mercer wasn’t picked (I would have picked him BTW) and instead
of taking it on the chin, he spouted off to the media. Had he
unequivocally deserved the call up, I might have cut him some
slack, but the sense of entitlement that came across was very
off putting considering others had equally good (or better)
cases to be picked.
Would he have interpreted a call up to he A squad as an olive
branch or a slap in the face? His actions so far suggest it
might well have been the latter.

Fisilau for one has had a far better season than Mercer so far.
