We are going to lose some good players. But so is every club
that hasn't been... shall we say "creative"? ... with their
salary cap accounting.
At the moment most clubs are thought to be operating well above
the theoretical cap limit because they are allowed to honour
contracts signed ahead of the lower cap being agreed. As those
contracts come up for renewal, clubs are either going to have to
do an amazing job of persuading players to play for less, or
lose those players to clubs and leagues that can afford to pay
for them.
Quins won't be the only team to have a weaker squad next year
than this. The question is how we do relatively speaking. Losing
Andre and Louis when we might have expected to keep them gives
Quins a bit more headroom to play with and potentially creates
space to buy in a replacement.

Northmore is not a great option at 12 based on the few
appearances he's made there. Hyde and Bradley both look big. Not
sure their preferred positions.

Ollie Lawrence's best position is 13 and he's very injury prone.
He would also be expensive. Assuming that, even with a healthy
transfer fee, Quins will doubtless not be rolling in money, I'd
prefer to giver Lennox Anyanwu a chance but we would need
another 12 as cover/competition for him - maybe from our
Academy? Not ideal but no worse in comparative terms to where
England are at the moment.

There's so few players like that though - we're better off
adjusting to what we have available. It's not like you need an
Andre to win the title.
Hyde and Bradley both look like they could become serious
players and Lennox is no mug; altering our style of play to suit
the talents of the crop of players we have makes more sense than
putting all our eggs in one basket.

A lot comes down to how ready those three are for prime time.
Hyde and Bradley have both looked good when I have seen them
play, but I've not seen them against top opposition. If we do
recruit, I don't suppose there's a chance we could spring Olly
Hartley from Saracens? He looks to me like he could be a good
fit to our style of play.

This is extremely disappointing if it transpires to be right.
12 is probably the position in world rugby with the biggest
shortage right now, and absolutely in the premiership. Andre was
a massive point of difference for us. Lawrence would be a good
signing, but he's a 13 and a very different player to Andre. I'm
afraid that lennox is not really fit to tie his bootlaces.
Northmore can cover in a pinch if he's ever fit, but so what?
The effectiveness of a top 12 is the perfect foil to Marcus.

Lennox deserves his chance to show what he can do at 12 if
Esterhauzien is to leave. He is not as big as Esterhauizen, but
then who is?
The young lad Sam Kerr, who played for England u20s at 12 is in
our academy. He looks like if he bulks up, could be a decent 12.
With Hyde and Bradley, we have a good group of young
up-and-coming 12s.
I guess the squeeze in the player cap, is going to mean we rely
more on these youngsters.

Sean Kerr is a pretty smooth operator but no amount of bulking
up will make him an imposing presence. I think we just have to
accept that we have to move on with players who aren't in
Andre's class. I'm very annoyed he's leaving but also appreciate
he's one of those once in a generation players who's pretty much
impossible to replace. Lenny and Bradley have plenty of
potential to be good premiership players at a minimum. Plus I
read somewhere that Lawrence is under a longish term contract so
presumably we'd have to pay a transfer fee, and I'd prefer we
didn't do that.
