I already made the point that these guys often play wing off the
bench but barely start, and why that is. They're clearly not
out-and-out 13s and the club obviously doesn't view them as such
given their willingness to have them cover these other
positions.
And no, MQ, it's nothing like Bergamasco playing 9.
Anyway the point is that if Lynagh isn't willing to put in the
work required to be a first choice winger, having players who
demonstrably can and do play on the wing able to cover his role
as backup for the players who do put the work in seems fine
while other players develop. Obviously in an ideal world, none
of this would have happened and both the player and the club
would have benefited. As it stands we're not losing a guaranteed
starter. I wish he was in the position to be a guaranteed
starter, because his strike rate is excellent and he has the raw
material to be a top class club winger and maybe an
international (I worry about his pace but perhaps that's recency
bias)

His record looks better than it really is as it was boosted by
him scoring loads of tries.

A bit, but not a lot. His record can't be sniffed at.

Scoring loads of tries is what we want from wingers. Unless I'm
missing something?

Just back from LS match, sat next to academy player's Mum, she
says her son knows Louis REALLY WELL & Quins didn't offer him a
new contract because he is currently so highly paid. She said he
is definitely going to Benetton. (I'm somewhat disillusioned
that such a thing can happen, Louis has undoubted quality &
loads more to offer Quins.)

So he negotiated a good contract after a great performance when
we won the title, then promptly got injured. Suppose it sort of
makes sense.

Does that mean that Quins didn’t offer him anything at all or
that they didn’t increase the wages on his current deal for a
new contract term. The books need balancing so maybe the club
could get two for one without too big a drop in talent.

Shame to lose him as he's a classy player but no one is
irreplaceable and the books need balancing.....

One player isn’t bigger than the club. He’s replaceable, &
what’s more is that he has a wonderful opportunity to live &
play in Italy, & represent the country of his birth at
international level. Having said that, I’d rather send David to
Trevino rather than Louis.
