I have a feeling Quins will seriously regret not offering Louis
another contract.
Perhaps not absolute grease lightening but I don't think that
matters as he's still pretty rapid for his size.
I've been watching Quins for 25 years and occasionally you get a
really classy player who makes the right decisions and does
something special at the right time - he's in that category.
For me he's a match winner in big games, always seems to make
something happen at the right time.
Fabulous reading/understanding of the game and great
intelligence which you can't coach.
Quite frankly flabbergasted that Quins are contemplating this.
Must be purely a financial conundrum which he's come out of the
wrong side of sadly...

I totally agree with you 10. It is very very disappointing that
the club are letting such a quality player slip through their
hands. He reads the game so well and is deceptively quick. It
was a shame he had such a long period out with that leg injury
after we won the league. If he had not had that he would have
probably been capped by England before now and things would have
been more straightforward. It does feel like there has been a
breakdown of communication and trust.

They may well be unhappy to lose Lynagh, but what we can't see
is who else the club is negotiating with and whether they would
regret losing those players even more.
All English clubs are going to lose players they would rather
keep, because of how the salary cap interacts with the expiry of
COVID-era contracts. The question is going to be how many and
who.

Of the rumoured departures, I'm a million times more worried
about how we're going to replace Collier than Lynagh. Without
our scrum, the last 3 or 4 years would have been very depressing
viewing for us - and if we can't replace Collier with a top
drawer scrummaging TH then you don't have to worry about who's
out wide at all, it won't make a blind bit of difference.
"Forwards win games" and all that.
I wonder if we will start to see Hobson and Cleaves pop up on
the bench a few times before the end of this season - if the
rumours above have any truth to them. I wouldn't quite agree
that it would be "sink or swim", but definitely feels like they
should be starting to break through soon if they're going to
play their part.
Either way, splash the cash on a TH - with the return of
Northmore, Joseph and Murley to fitness, replacing Lynagh would
not be nearly as urgent. If and when we are able to pick up a
winger, I'd love them to be a tall, physical runner who can pose
a different aerial threat than our other outside backs do. Would
give Marcus more crossfield kick options and add another string
to our attacking bow. Maybe that's Hayden Hyde though - he seems
to have been moved out to the wing of late.

Northmore and Joseph?! Why would the return of out and out 13s
be of any use to us in replacing an out and out winger?

Interestingly, looking at the squad list - Louis Lynagh is the
only player on a full contract that signed in 2021.
Andre's contract is older. He signed a 5 year contract in 2020.
Jack Musk + George Head + Jake Murray joined the academy in
2021. But, I don't think that they have signed senior contracts
yet.
All other players signed/renewed since 2022.
This is assuming that I have kept it all up to date and haven't
made any mistakes, etc.

If players play on the wing quite often are they out and out
13s?

sure bout Joseph. Even with marchant, I preferred proper back 3
players on the wing with him at 13.
Northmore can cover wing as a utility option but shouldn't be
considered a regular back 3 option

Marchant playing wing was something that basically never
happened until his trip to NZ and his route to the England team
being via turning himself into a utility back.
Northmore was either picked as a 13 or was the flexible bench
option who ended up on the wing a lot as a result. Not much has
changed now except that he's probably first choice 13 so is even
less likely to start on the wing. However he has played there
quite regularly off the bench.
Joseph is much the same - he makes the bench a lot because he
can and does play wing when needed, but would very rarely start
there.
It's not like someone like Henry Slade, who would only end up
playing wing in dire circumstances
