Good luck, Louis. I hope you are successful at Benetton and will
be playing for Italy very soon. I am sure Quins supporters feel

Now we know he is off, and Cassius is fit, time to chuck him in
and see if he's got what it takes. If they are apprehensive in
doing so, then that says enough that a replacement is needed for
sure

Whilst I'm keen to see him play international rugby, Italy need
rugby infrastructure in schools and universities in Italy if
they want their national side to improve. Picking qualified
players from abroad won't strengthen them long term. But hope
they (and LL) go well!

I thought COS addressed this while he was in charge, and the
improvement in Italian rugby in recent years is testament to
that.

He was selected for the summer tour when we won the league but
he got injured, so didn't get any game time and others stepped
in. Can't blame Eddie for that per se but then not selecting him
after that was silly but then he has had a couple of injuries
since then.
This still feels a little petulant to me, elements of billy big
banana's, but let's hope he does make it into that Italy side
and does start scoring tries for them. Can't help feeling a
little bit of the Ibitoye's in this and hope for him that it
doesn't back fire the same way.

If it's a case of a player over-valuing themselves and then
going elsewhere, I frankly couldn't care less about their career
after that, as sometimes you need to learn the hard way.

I remember that as being one of his focus areas, along with
coach development (and that sort of thing has long been his
speciality - he did it for the EIS and RFU as well) - but it
generally takes a few years to bear fruit.
IIRC from the tedious discussion with Marsile about it the
Academies were reformed into their current state around 2008,
and started producing a consistent stream of good players
somewhere around 2014-15 (after a couple of "lost generations"
had come out of the process while it was changing).
On that basis you'd expect Italy to be at the point where they
are starting to produce good academy output - we'll have to wait
to see if the likes of Capuozzo are one-offs or the beginning of
a steady stream.

Capuozzo is essentially French and has played all of his club
rugby in France.

England have had plenty of one cap wonders, but I'm not sure
many are due to a desire to cap them and stop them playing for
another country. I generally think most international coaches
would only cap someone if they think they're good enough. If
not, they're probably not fussed about them playing for another
country.
The media make a bigger deal out of it then it really is
