Maybe he should come back to Quins, if a centralised contract is
       in the offing?

That’s where I think your reasoning falls down. Contract
negotiations start in January when the window opens (and
sometimes a little naughtily before that…); they’re often
announced some time after the decision is made.
Marchant would at the very least have been negotiating with
Stade before the 6 Nations squad was picked, and even then he’d
been in plenty of Eddie’s squads without ever being given a
proper run in his preferred position. We don’t know when he knew
that he was becoming Borthwick’s first choice (or how long that
was for). So your “T minus lots” isn’t really justified. At the
most, it was “T minus a few uncertain weeks,” in which it wasn’t
clear whether he’d actually get a chance with England or how
long Stade would be prepared to wait.

Eddie was sacked the day after marchant to stade was announced.
At the beginning of December. You're telling me stade wouldn't
have waited until the usual negotiation window actually opened?

Why are we talking about this when it’s based on someone who’s
heard it from his mate’s mate’s mate by all accounts?

We could call them V and W.

We have no visibility of when T was, as far as I’m aware, so we
don’t know that the decision was made before T.
That also doesn’t make my logic incorrect. It simply adds a new
premise. As I said, my premises may be wrong. The logic isn’t.

       I think you’re confusing a premise with a hypothesis?
       This is a debate.
