I’d be happy enough to see him back in the Premiership for

Great player but we haven’t missed him. Up to him where he
plays and he knows it will go down like a lead balloon with most
Quins fans. Looks like (understandably) that’s not his main
priority.

I'd strongly disagree. Look at yesterday's game - ulster
repeatedly broke our midfield in broken play yesterday. On
another day that costs us dear. Will Joseph, much as I like him
ball in hand, is nowhere near marchant in defence, and goes
missing a bit for me. Beard has been very promising, but I don't
think anyone would suggest he's Joe's equal in any facet.

Joe is a really special player. Sadly, the England team
management didn't seem too aware of that. Although I can't help
thinking that he just happened to excel because of his teammates
and the way we play. Would he be as effective at Sarries? I
doubt it, although he'd still be pure quality.

I feel like you’re missing the point here.
Under Jones, Marchant wasn’t being picked. So he did not have
the carrot of England selection to keep him here.
Marchant knew it was likely Jones would move on after the World
Cup, sure. But he had no reason to believe that would also mean
he would be picked. It’s just as likely the new coach comes in
and still doesn’t pick him. After all, he’s spent years being in
and around the squads without ever really getting a chance.
Then Borthwick comes in and picks him.
Suddenly Joe has the carrot of England selection. He likely
believes he has a very good chance of getting picked if he’s in
England. Because Borthwick has shown a tendency to pick him and
Borthwick is the England coach.
So now Marchant wants to come back to England so that he can get
picked for England.
Not sure what about that is a conspiracy theory. Seems pretty
logical.

It's not really very logical. He could very easily waited and
seen what happened if he was only going because of Eddie.

He could have done. Or he could move on. As I said, he had no
reason to think he would be picked. Now he has a reason to think
he will be picked.

Person X wants Y and Z.
Person X wants Y slightly more than Z.
Y and Z can’t be had simultaneously.
Person X doesn’t think they can get Y so instead they take Z
when it is offered.
After having taken Z, person X learns they can have Y.
Person X then gives up Z in order to have Y.
Rodney, please point out where the logic fails in this
statement.
Sure, you can argue against my premises. You can’t reasonably
argue against the logic.

Yes but it didn’t cost us and it hasn’t so far. I specifically
said he’s a great player but, for whatever reason, I’ve not had
a moment this season where I’ve felt he would have made a
difference to the outcome of the game. I’m surprised by that but
pleasantly so.

I've already pointed it out.
X doesn't need to make a decision on Z until T, but accepts Z at
T minus lots. Suggesting that Z wasn't really what X wanted, and
Y was more important.
