I'm really confused. I'm not even sure what point is trying to
       be scored
For what it's worth, pat lam did complain that some clubs have a
much better catchment of public schools than others. I can't
find the article, but his gripe did seem to have some merit.
Then again, some clubs have a much wider catchment of clubs and
arguably a more dominant position as the main sporting entity in
       the region
It's also what you do with the intake and how you prioritise
your academy players vs bringing players in
Some teams seem to value their academies more than others. Just
       how it is

Just holding Quins up to the same standard as used to throw
       shade at other clubs.

Mike Brown is, I believe, the oldest player still playing in the
Premiership. If not, he is certainly one of them. He played his
first senior game for Quins in 2005. He was part of the first
generation of academy players - who were recruited long before
the current academy system was developed and catchment areas
       were allocated.
So he's a particularly bizarre example to fixate on.
I mean, if we're going to do that then Richard Hill played his
schoolboy rugby at Salisbury RFC too, and Saracens are further
from his home club than the Stoop is, regardless of whether you
count Vicarage Road or the StoneX as the destination.

Richard Hill joined Saracens in 1993 when he was at Brunel
       University.
Did Peter Winterbottom attend a farming college in South London?

Ah, so you do understand my point. Players from a different era
joined clubs in a different way from how they do today. Well
       spotted.

It was against the rules to pay players in the 1980s though.

In the 2000s it was against the rules to break the salary cap by
       large amounts on multiple occasions.

Yes it was. Difference being that Saracens got punished for it
       though.

Sorry Toga, you seem to have missed the question I asked. Here
       it is again:
       --- Quote ---
       > what were the regulations around Premiership rugby academies
and the catchment areas in 2004?

I have no idea what the circumstances were that led to Brown
being in Quins academy and not Bath's. As he's a bona fide club
legend, I'd love to know more! I eagerly await your explanation.
       Thank you xx
