More transfer speculation regarding Andre as French media are
reporting that Toulon are interested. Given his contract up at
the end of next season, it would take a hefty fee to release him
from his contract.

He would be a big loss, but it might depend on our finances.

I’m in two minds.
The French (including their media) are very bought into the Top
14 being the best rugby league in the world. Therefore interest
from a Top 14 club = player may be moving, because (regardless
of contract position) why wouldn’t you drop everything to move
to the better league? I’m sure this view was only reinforced by
three Premiership clubs going bust.
Not saying Andre might not choose to go, or that Toulon aren’t
in a position to ‘out bid’ us on a new contract, but I think the
French clubs and media can overplay the ease of signing someone
who’s in contract. Particularly an outright superstar like
Andre.
However… in the current desert of England qualified 12s we have
possibly the best prospect for an English ball-carrying inside
centre not getting game time because he’s stuck behind a world
class International. I have no doubt Lennox is learning a huge
amount from working with Andre and he impresses as having a
particularly level head on his shoulders, but how long can we
realistically expect him to be patient?

I think "outright superstar" might be over egging it a bit,
especially from a French perspective.

Ah, I think he's regarded as such. His exploits for Quins are
well known throughout Europe and his international displays have
been excellent even if he's not a regular.
I think we've done brilliantly keeping hold of him for as long
as we have, and if he goes it'll be a loss for sure but one I
won't feel bitter about. He's done a huge amount for us on the
pitch and has never looked like he was just here for the money,
and in return I get the impression he's thoroughly enjoyed the
experience on and off the pitch.
If only all our overseas signings could work out this well!

I think he's a better player for coming to Quins. His discipline
has improved and I think we have enabled him to build on his
footballing skills. Like NEv, he's unfortunate to have a
compatriot who is keeping him out of an international jersey.
I wouldn't begrudge him a big payday in France, especially with
Lennox coming through, but he has given us a lot even as Quins
have given him a lot in return.

Well there are clearly more levels of "superstar" than I
thought. 😁

Will be a big loss if he does goes, he pulls in multiple players
marking him, and does make the metres
