It doesn't really matter if they counted them or made them up. I
sat in the stand with my daughter at the end of the game, as it
was raining and there was nothing else to do. There's zero
chance we'd have gone to watch the game if it weren't for the
mens'. And I'm sure we were probably 2 in many thousand.

Nah.
Don't believe it.
The vast majority of people at the womens' game were there
because there was a men's game on.

Somewhere in the Quins announcement they said they used
technology using drone cameras to count actual people rather
than tickets, etc. They certainly didn’t use Sarries technique
of assuming a red seat at Wembley was a Sarries supporter.

Probably were. Doesnt matter why they were there, they were
there during the duration of the game

I quite like the idea of "present, but don't want to be here" as
a metric for attendance figures. Pretty sure in the Gustard and
earlier eras we could well have recorded single digits for
"genuine" attendance under those rules.

The only way to do this honestly and fairly would surely be to
take the attendance at a women's game where there isn't a men's
game on that will confuse the statistics.
What has been the highest attendance at an independent women's
game?

A few years ago, Quins heavily promoted the match v Richmond. I
think there was an attendance of 3,000+ that day.

As much as some here seem to want to pour doubt and scorn on
this, it's not just the club announcing something. This will
have been verified by a Guinness World Record invigilator. They
don't just take someone's word for a record. They have strict
rules about what is & isn't allowed, how an attempt is measured,
etc.
As regards the technical side of it, it's fairly simple. Think
back to the 2012 Premiership final. Even 11 years ago they had
the technology to take a photo that showed the entire crowd. I
remember it being posted online with the ability to pan around,
zoom in, and even tag myself when I found where I'd been sitting
that day (Block M10, Row 55, Seat 258). That was 11 years ago &
didn't involve lots of mucking around. Now, fast forward to
today, with the advances in computing, and it would be very
simple to take a similar photosphere and get an accurate count
of the people present (even programming to not count coaching
staff, players, stewards etc as they can be easily defined).

It's just possible that you have missed the point entirely.
I am not disputing that there were x number of bodies on seats
during some part of the women's game.
I - and possibly others - are saying that they wouldn't have
been there if it wasn't for the fact that there was a men's game
shortly afterwards.
