Beckham was burned in effigy, wasn't he?
Putting aside the desire from some quarters to make everything
Farrell achieves or experiences the greatest ever, it is fair to
say he has been a divisive figure since he broke into the
England team. I remember spending many hours defending his early
performances on another forum.

What 'incredible insight'? I haven't claimed to have access to
anything that you or anyone else doesn't.
I've formed my opinion based on how I've seen Farrell play and
respond to negative/positive things in the past since he broke
onto the scene in what, 2007/2008? In my opinion he's got a
fantastic mindset that would be an asset to any player but to
me, he's never, ever seemed the slightest bit bothered by the
peripheral stuff - good or bad. He's not particularly active on
social media unless it's posting a paid advert so I can't
imagine he goes seeking out opinion pieces, criticism or praise.
I can totally believe his family might though and perhaps
they're affected more than he is.
I'm still of the opinion there's something more at play.

Maybe you could give your detailed knowledge/opinion so that we
can all adopt it unquestioningly, thus making some amends for
daring to have apparently unacceptable views.

When a rugby player with over 100 caps for his country, many of
them as captain, and the highest England point scorer of all
time and the second highest world rugby point scorer of all time
withdraws from the England rugby team because he says it isn't
good for his mental health then my first reaction isn't to think
he's lying and there must be more to it.
That's the place to start.
