You think having a black history month will change this?
Also, there's a report that the abuser is mixed race. It doesn't
say what the races are, but that usually implies an element of
black heritage. hat would confuse things somewhat, as it seems
the term that Ugo mentioned is often used between black/mixed
race people and is deemed perfectly acceptable.

It also says that the person is from South Africa.
People of mixed race in South Africa do not consider themselves
to be "black" and vice versa. (I once had to be a peacemaker
when an English person who was on holiday referred to a black
person as "coloured".)

Not on its own, but it's one of hundreds of small steps that can
be taken as a society to address systemic inequality and
prejudice. Education is a crucial tool in countering racism, so
teaching about the contributions made by ethnic minorities to
our country's history is a small part of a patchwork of
solutions.

Nope it won’t change it on its own, it’s part of a process and
it’s a step.

The question really is around the '"...not a single person said
a word, challenged or even reported it". <-- what are the
general public actually meant to do under these circumstances?
Would you actually risk you or your family's security just to
correct somebody exercising what is in reality their freedom of
speech?
I don't personally agree with some recent protest rallies but I
don't see it as my place to confront those participating. These
incidents are the realm of local security personnel and/or
police (only).
I go to watch the rugby, not enforce societal standards.

Ah, "systemic"...
I would rather the contributions of everyone be recognised, and
not treated any differently because of their race, colour,
gender etc.

I would politely disagree. By the time someone goes to a rugby
match, it's way too late to change their views on such things.
The education element needs to be at home, with the family, or
at school.
Let me know when you meet someone who says "I used to be racist,
then I went to a rugby match and they told me it's bad; now I'm
not".

It seems a little more complicated than the initial tweet led
everyone to believe....
I'm very sorry to hear about what happened to Ugo and the abuse
he received is not acceptable ever, even if it was from a mixed
race person.
But it wasn't from a Glos or Exeter fan so everyone can back off
from abusing them.
Apparently Exeter's security did step in and it was Ugo that had
the "scuffle".
